Good pair of tri shorts?
I race in either Pearl Izumi shorts or Louis Garneau stuff. Both have been very comfortable and lasted for quite a while now.
I have a pair of Sugoi tri-shorts and tri-tank that I have been training in and have had no problems.
Have riden up to 15 miles with no chaffing. Very comfortable to run and swim in as well...
Have my first sprint tri next week so I will know how well they worked out. I have been happy with them so far while training..
"Feed the Tridiction" :D
I have a pair of Zoot shorts and the fleece padding is wearing out and causes irritation when on the bike. My pair of DeSotos are holding up much better and I've used them more than the Zoot.
I was in a race the other week and got behind a guy on the bike who had some sheer shorts. I'm talking cheeks and the full crack. I think they were the new Garneus 'cuase they like their clothing a bit more sheer than others. Not really sure though. Didn't want to stick around (especially behind) and find out what they were. Maybe the guy shuld've bent over in front of the mirror before he bought them.
Get good quailty shorts with a good pad and decent coverage unless your not too modest.
I got mine and you can't have it back!

I like the Desoto brand - the ones that are shorter and also have a lower waist line. To be honest I have tried several over the years. I use my shorts for running, cycling and even swimmming (Open Water) so I get a wide variety of use from them. Since I know exactly what I like and what size, I wait until I find them on sale online and then buy 2 -3 pairs at a time. I have done this the past 2 years. If you are like many folks you will get VERY picky about your Tri clothes and associated shoes and equipement. Fit is everything! So Tri a few things and when you find something that works - stick with it.
I'm certified in chaffing in the nether regions. That should chase the men away from this post...
I have a pair of Descente's Aero-XT Rave tri shorts. I love them for running and swimming. I can do either for hours in them and have fairly minimal chaffing. But I'm not a fan of cycling in them--the sides of the chamois where it is stitched chaffe against the side of the saddle. I could use a wee bit more padding too, but I can get used to it being thin.
I've had pretty horrid chaffing issues over the years with cycling and finally got them under control with a saddle I love (Terry damselfly for any women with narrow hips and chaffing issues) and staying away from cycling shorts with that flat-locked stiched strip down the middle...single piece only please! I like my chamois fairly thin as far as normal cycling shorts go. Since I have a fairly narrow pelvis my legs are not situated very far apart and I tend to at least occasionally rub the side of the saddle (also, I ride with it slightly pointed to one side to avoid chaffing in the um, sensitive central areas). In normal cycling shorts contact with the side of the saddle and my inner thigh is not a painful issue since the chamois stiching is farther down the side of my leg than the descente's and other tri shorts I've tried on (or at least I think that's the important difference).
Any suggestions for brands? I've tried Pearl Izumi and Zoot and I'm not a fan of either for running. They felt scratchy even in the store/on a 1+ hour test run.
About 15 years ago my first pair of cycling shorts were actualy unisex tri shorts...and I put a lot of miles on those (well, mostly on a mountain bike), there has to be something out there... They might have been made by speedo, but they've gone the way of the hole-man so I can't check.
I've come to love my De Soto Power Tri Shorts. Two weekends ago I did a 120+ mile bike ride in them and they were just fine. They might very well be the overall best shorts I own.
De Soto also offers a version of these shorts with 4 pockets (two on either side) for stashing stuff in them for the run.
Right now Trisports.com has the 2005 models on sale for $36.
I am a fan of the DeSoto tri shorts too. I got the ones with the 4 pockets which are great.
I would load up on bodyglide or some kind of chammy butter pre-race before putting the shorts on. The lube will help with the chafing :D

I'm on the hunt for a good pair of tri shorts. Any ideas? Suggestions? I have a pair of Cannondale bike shorts now that are great on the bike but I can't run more than 6 miles without some chaffing problems, I'll just leave it at that. What about singlets?
Please help!
