ive been training for my first HIM for the last 6 or 7 months (its on september 10th) and have just recently come down with a bit of ITBS which has side-lined me on the running. i have been doing all of the strength-training that i can find as well as using the stick to massage. i haven't run for about 2.5 weeks but have been keeping up with the swim/bike workouts (in fact doing a bit more to make up for the lost running). if the running pain goes aways in the next few weeks do you think it would be possible to still do the race? or should i just do an oly?
I had kind of the same issue. Its late enough in the season, and depending on your fitness, you may be able to "fake" your way through the 13 miles of running.
Personally, I think the pain could subside, but it will probably flare up again during your race around mile 6 or 7.
You can try the elliptical machine if you have access to a gym. Thats what my therapist had recommended to me when I first start PT. Its not an exact substitute for the running, but its better then sitting on the couch eating potato chips.
You may also try pool running. Your gym might have some ankle weights that will keep you from floating while your running.
