How "lucrative" is Spreadshop?

Not very :( I think I've sold maybe 20 shirts. I don't push it much but I think if you have good designs you can sell some but lucrative it is not unless you find some niche that just goes nuts, then I'd just do it yourself. Spreadshirt is easy but the margins are definitely in their favor. I don't think you need a website.
I like the SWAG, but is this the only way your site gets funded?....aside from personal expenses of course.
Also, is a website needed to open a "shop"?
