HELP!!! IT Band
do it band compression straps work? can i keep running then?
Do you sttretch regularly? If not, stretching should be done evry day following your workouts. There are some specific ones you can do for the IT bands. Look them up online, but that should help prevent further injury.

Of course it's 'effing hard, it's IRONMAN!
i had the same thing.Does it hurt when you go up and down hills/steps? or to be more exact. >30deg flexion. Search IT band syndrome of IT Band Friction syndrome on the web there a re some good documents there.
I would advise you to lay off the running as all IT band injuries are from over use. also get a hard foam roller from a fittness store or pilates store and use that the release your it bands in about a week, once the inflamation goes down.....physio also helps.
Speed Kills. Strength Punishes
I'd head to a physiotherapist or athletic therapist. Explain your situation and they might be able to use some of their techniques to accelerate your recovery. If you find somebody that deals with athletes they won't ask you to take unneccesary time off.
My IT band acted up this winter after cross country skiing over the Christmas holidays and my athletic therapist got me running again ASAP.
Mine became inflamed in the middle of a marathon.
You need to live your life stretching and icing.
And then ease back into running, I mean a couple of miles at a time and never do deep squats, full leg extensions or full lunges again in your life
If you do not take care of this it will become chronic, mine is gone! knock on wood!
I've had ITB trouble too. The best thing i did was to see a specialist who was able to determine how bad the injury was and design a rehabilitation program for me. I just wish i'd gone to see her when i first got the injury. Seeking professional help sooner rather than later will make a huge difference to your recovery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've got a bit of an ITB problem. I almost have insurance through my new job, and I think I'll got talk to someone when I get it. I can't really run very far. 5K is about it. Sometimes less if its a lot of uphill. Luckily I'm only doing sprint for right now.
You need to stretch it a lot. Stretch it every day with the stretches you can find online. One of them is put one hand on the wall with the outside of the bad knee toward the wall. You put your bad knee in front of the other, like you're going to stretch your calves, but instead, you lean your hip into the wall. That will stetch your hip out, but also the ITB. Doing that during a race, once you're hurting too bad will get you going again for a little while, but it will also probably make the problems worse.
I got rid of mine for a while, but its starting to act up again. Good luck.

here's the situation. i'm training for my first half IM which will take place this september. i have been sticking to my program religiously. except two weeks ago i took an entire week off as i was on vacation (it was a recovery week anyway so i didnt think it a big deal). i came back and started right up on my plan again...on monday i ran 4 miles and had the worst side stitch of my life. tuesday i ran 5 and felt alright and then on thursday i ran 12. the first 10 miles went great and then all of a sudden i got a serious pain on the outside of my left knee...i stopped and walked home trying to run a few times again but still feeling the pain. i have deduced that it is my IT band.
i took 4 days off from running while keeping up with my cycling and swimming. i tried to run 3 this morning but only got a mile before it started acting up again.
it doesnt hurt when i bike, it only hurts while swimming when i kick hard. what should i do? i have four 1.5 hr+ runs in the next 2.5 weeks. should i be aqua jogging? can i keep running? is my season over? any help would be greatly appreciated as im freaking out.
