Guys - shaving under arms?
After taking 20 years of **** for shaving my legs, I don't think I'm ready to add shaving my armpits!
I frequently get chafed along the rear edge of my armpit, the rim of the hollow, if you can picture that. If that's what you're experiencing, my solution has been to trim the hair back a little, and lube the spot that got chafed.

I recently trimmed mine too, but my wife would leave me i think if i shaved my armpits too..she already makes fun of me for the legs...lol
That chaffing is probably just skin on skin but I say shave away! I shave legs, chest, arms, the works!

Guys ~ For what it's worth, shaving might not help. The area that CHCB mentioned is also where the edge of a tank top or sports bra might be. So even for those of us who already shave our underarms, you can still get chafing from the material or the skin on skin. Test the BodyGlide with the hair and use removal as a last resort is my advice.
Of course shaving won't help!!!! It's all about that slick feel fast feeling!! ;)

If ya' need one...wear one (visualizing Chris Farley here). But that's a little TMI for this hour of the morning. Do what ya gotta do.
hey chcb do you also wear some real short shorts that say hottie across the back?
Trevor Douglas YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!
Ya'll are too much...
I also trim the armpits.. I don't get the chaffing you're referring to, but i don't cut the hair shorter than 1/4"
Maybe your grotesquely overdeveloped latissimus dorci are just in the way of your triceps as you run/cycle....
I know people also chafe there during the swim in a wetsuit..

CHCB, Sldotter...You guys have issues...
I shave my armpits, never had any problems with chafing though.
I agree, I don't think chafing has something to do with the hairy-or-baby-butt-smooth armpits.
Noel.
I say..lube away..

It ain't much, if it ain't Dutch!!
I use a beard trimmer to keep the pit hair low. At least it doesn't look like I'm carrying a chinchilla under there. It gives a cleaner look to my picture when I raise my arms as I cross the finish line.
I got mine and you can't have it back!

Only place I shave is my face, usually,
I shaved my legs just before IM Florida and that was it.
Your hair under your armpit is there to prevent chafing between your torso and your arm.
Trimming it off is just cosmetic.:D
Nothing to it, but to do it

I raced this weekend in mad heat and humidity, shorter than Olympic distance, and came away with some nasty chafing under my arms. Not caused by my clothing or anything - just the natural friction. In several other hot races of distances up to Marathon and Half Iron, I've never experienced that before. I have IMWI coming up in September, and want to make sure I avoid anything like it - it was pretty painful, even on the bike. My question: Anybody else experience this? Obviously Body Glide would be useful, but the hair under the arms makes that less effective. Do any of you shave your under arms to prevent chafing and/or make Body Glide easier? Does it work for you? Thanks!
