Chest infection?
no it's not normal!
where where you riding? was it hot or cold, did you dress accordingly? was it wet? maybe try rugging up a bit before the next one
in the mean time try some decongestant

it was mildly warm. It was a really hot day all day, but i waited until it cooled down a bit. It was perfect for cycling really. I was cycling my normal route, the only difference was i took a massive hill half way which i don't normally do. it's more of a small mountain really. My normal route is just through the north of the city, and along the coast for a few miles.
I drank plenty of water and ran a couple of kilometers afterwards. nothing out of the ordinary, but now i feel like my lungs are full of crap! I'm gonna go to a pharmacy at lunch time and get some decongestant, hope that works!
This would probably explain why my lungs felt like they were on fire the whole time. I just thought it was normal! oops.

You'll be susceptable to upper respiratory infections any time you're riding when its "cooler" and especially if you're nose is running due to allergies...
it happens to me from time to time (I have allergies)..

Hello my friend...
From a medical point of view, is not normal what you are experiencing.
Chunks of material coming from your lungs, is not good....
There are a few parameter to look for, like color, consistency, and other symptoms that come with the cough and mucus.
I have to say, that is not related to the fact thta you are new to this...
Particulary if is quite a good amount of stuff that you are eliminating, and there are some constitutional symptoms like fever, lack of energy, sweats....you migh need medication.
One last piece of advice my good friend...keep yourself very...very hydrated, even when you are not trainning, to keep as fluid as possible the secretions in your lungs and bronchi...
Hope you get well soon

I have heard that there is this small bicycle race someplace in Europe that's being shown on television for the next few days...
I get a runny nose while riding but no chest-chunks. If it's greenish yellow, it means your body's fighting off an infection in your respiratory tract somewhere. Make sure you're getting rest and good nutrition when you are exercising. Your immune system is not as strong when you do a lot of endurance work. I tend to take Vitamin C and Zinc supplements a couple of times a week to help with that but mostly, rest up.

I've been out of training for almost a month with two separate colds (one became a chest infection) and a week-long vacation where I couldn't train.
Now that I'm back in training, I can say that the time off didn't really hurt me in a bad way, and my cycling strength seems to have improved if that's possible (maybe all the rest?).
So, take the week off and get well. Your fitness will be there when you return...

Hi guys, is it natural to get a lot of mucus build up in your lungs the day after a fairly long ride? I've been having this problem for the last week, and i've been coughing up chunks all morning.
I had a bit of a cough at the weekend, but nothing worth noticing at all really. I kinda thought maybe all of the workouts were just pushing out any crap that was in my lungs and it was natural, but it's getting a bit worse now and i'm kinda worried about it. It doesn't feel like a chest infection, but feels more like it's related to my workouts because it's always worse the day after a long training session.
I don't wanna pay for a visit to the doctor because i'm quite broke, but if needs be i will. I just wanna know if coughing up chunks is part of the process of a newbie.
Apologies for the not so pleasant details, but this is the health forum!
Any advice is appreciated!
