I'm fairly new to triathlon. After doing one race two years ago I've been training for all three sports, really concentrating on getting better at swimming. I'm pretty terrible at swimming, actually. But, I'm ready to slowly, but surely, give it another try.

What are the best races in New England? Your favorites?

I've signed up for Danskin, Witch City, Boston, and Hyannis II. I know I enjoyed the Hyannis race the first time I tried it, but the rest are all stabs in the dark.

So, where are the best multisport scenes?

I'm in the middle of my 18th year of multi-sport racing and have done just about every race in New England at one time or another.
Like an all-you-can eat buffet, I've never met a race I didn't like.
The FIRM races I have done in the past were all good and the independent races in Maine and NH have all been fun too.
The Vermont Sun series at Branbury State Park just south of Middlebury, Vt. has a twenty year history. The race series features a couple of sprints, a couple of olympic distances and now a half iron distance race. The races are safe, well organized, are in a beautiful setting and are not expensive. The average crowd is 150-200 and the crowd is diverse.

Thanks for the tip on Vermont Sun series. I'm going to remember that for next year. Perhaps I'll be ready to try an olympic by then.
