There are no excuses - so don't look for them. As a product of your own choices, you directly determine your life outcomes.
Don't think, just do.

Did I hear somebody say "duathlon?"
Hang in there, hope the healing goes faster than you expect

How's the rest of your bike (aside from the broken fork)? If you can get it replaced, I second the idea to do a Duathlon or two if you can.
Look on the bright side: if running is a limiter for you, you have some time to focus on doing just that and building your running endurance.:D

That's one heck of a pork chop on your cheek  . Looks like it could of been alot worse...ie. broken jaw, missing teeth etc... Hang in there, and don't let it take the fire out of you ;) .
Ouch. That's gotta hurt. And go for the duathlons. They are great training for tri's and you'll appreciate only having to run once that much more.
Youch! Sorry bout the wreck! Stick around and have fun with us, though. You'll be better in a few weeks... or months... Get that bike fixed!
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
Ouch!! Dude looks like Hannibal Lecture's handy work. Take care of yourself and make sure to let yourself heal. I had a season ending bike wreck (faulty equipment) in 2001 and it took me 2 years to recover fully.
Crap! Sorry about your wounds...I know what it is like to be dealing with abrasions...seeping wounds...sticking bandages...ouch!!!
I can't believe your fork broke!!! I've always kind of wondered how strong carbon fiber is. I think this settles my arguement of whether to buy a Griffen vs. P3 Carbon.
Hell No to carbon!!
Heal up quick.
Just an update!
I saw my doctor yesterday to see how I am healing and if there is anything I can do about permanent scarring. She said that the biggest concern right now is infection, but I should be past that in a few weeks. After that, I can back to my regular routine, sorta!
So, I may do the Chicago Tri afterall. It may be a struggle, but I feel that I should do it. If Ben Rothlisberger can play football this season, I can do the triathlon, right!?
Also, thank you to everyone for your interest in my situation. I am going to stick with it and will continue to lurk around these forums.
Thanks,
Josh
Now thats just cool stick with it man...

Unfortunately, my season has been abruptly ended!
This is my first triathlon season, I have always been a cyclist, but thought I would try triathlons this year. I have been training and doing some Sprint events for the past 8+ months and have really enjoyed it. I know this sport is for me, and I have been looking forward to my first Olympic event at the Chicago Triathlon, August 27.
The other day while I was out on a training ride, after only about 4 miles, I was cruising along a road that I ride almost everyday and I hit a pothole. I felt it coming as it happened, my carbon fork snapped in half and I went flying over the bars. I did not have time to brace or put my hands out, so I flew face first into the pavement and slid several feet on my face. I guess I was lucky since I did not break any bones and no cars hit me. The only apparent damage to my bike was the fork, even though it flew across the street when my pedals unclipped as I flipped over the bars.
Well, I am hopeful to continue to train and compete in triathlon events, but it appears that at least this season is over. I cannot get in the pool as the severe facial abrasions need time and a sterile environment to heal properly.
I want to take a moment to say how much this forum and all of you who post have inspired me throughout this season. I read everyday and find new and interesting posts every time. Thanks to trifuel for having this place for us all to convene.
Good luck to all and I will be back!
Josh :)
