Another Heart Rate Monitor Question
First of all, good luck and let us know how the race goes!! As for the HRM, personally I think you are comparing apples and oranges. Like you said -- a more basic model just to let you watch you HR as you go, essentially. And the high end which just about let's you track everything.
I suppose it's a question of how tech-y you want to be. I've got the M32 -- I don't record anything but just use it as a guide during actual training/racing. My husband has the S150 and loves all its nifty little features.
So, I know I'm not really answering your question. But my answer is -- it's a matter of whether, even after you're a pro Ironman(!), whether you'll get into that much of the mechanical stuff. I don't think you can go wrong with Polar, so I suppose it's worth buying up if you can afford it. Otherwise, a simple $100 will get you through the next year. good luck!
I recently bought the S150 from here for $75.00, a smokin' deal:

The S150 is a great HR and bike computer combo. It's comes with a bike mount and wired set up to record speed, time, distance, ect. I also happen to have an F11. The F11 is great for running BUT it really is designed to provide you with a whole run workout plan and as such is so run specific, it was useless for anything else. It's big selling point is this program that creates your training profile that you probably don't need. The S150 can also do splits, the F11 can't.

Of course it's 'effing hard, it's IRONMAN!
Hmmm....another option to think about :) I can get the S150 for just under $100 (love the Polar trade up program!). Decisions, decisions :) Thanks for the info and opinions.
If i didnt alreadt have the 520s then I would get the 625. I love having the bike computer and watch with me for the whole race. I dont have the foot pod, which has been just fine because I run mostly out there on the Sammamish /Burke Gillman (for my long runs) and on the east side the miles are marked every 1/2 mile or on local roads I already know the distance on, if not I go for time.
One BIG thing is to make sure which ever you get make sure it has a backlight. Some of the lower end ones don't have one and I find in the winter it is VERY handy.
Good Luck this weekend-- I am still trying to decide if I want to do it too--

Thanks!! I am looking forward to the race and crossing that finish line! Already thinking about a couple more races this year (BLT and Escape from the Rock...)
On the HRM, I think that I will get the 625--I really like the running function as I need a lot of help in that area :)
I have had two 625X's (one stolen) and would buy it again if this one dissapears as well, they are great. Just make sure you really want all the features! The foot pod works great, except when you forget to turn it off and it eats a battery, keep an extra AAA handy. I'd start looking for the USB or serial IR downloading thingie so you can download data from the watch, it really makes the polar watches into serious training tools.

Thanks for all of the replies...I just ordered my 625x this morning...I can't wait for it to get here!

You will love it!!!! Good job on the race, saw your other post:)
I have a polar, and it says that the watch is water resistant...does that mean water proof?? I want to use it on my race, but I don't want to break it!!

You can swim with it just fine, but dont press any of the buttons under water--this can let water in. I wear mine on all my races

Apologies for the threadjack, but I have a question about the USB IR adapter. Is it true that a non-Polar device (cheaper) will work for this? If so, can anyone recommend any brands to look for? I tried to run a search on this and came up empty.

So I guess my heart rate monitor post was one of the lost posts during the outage this morning---so here it is again:
I am looking to get a new heart rate monitor (as a reward for finishing my first tri!). I have been comparing features, etc. and think that I have narrowed it down to 2. One is a "basic" sort of monitor and the other has a lot more features. I am just not sure which one to get. I don't mind spending the extra money, but on the same token, I don't want to waste it either. The two that I am looking at are the Polar S625x and the F11. The prices on the two (thru the Polar Trade Up program) are around $221 and $111 respectively. Any advice?
About me and what I am looking for--I am a former basketball player and new to the tri scene. I have really liked it so far and am very excited about my first sprint this coming Sunday (wish me luck!). Right now I am just focused on finishing and feeling good, but eventually I am sure that I will start caring about time and increasing to some of the other distances. I do have some weight to lose, so that is also a fitness/nutrition focus for me right now. I don't want to buy a HRM that I will "out grow" soon, but I also don't want to buy one that I will not use many of the features. So...any advice? Here are the two that I am thinking about. (other suggestions are welcome too). Right now I have an old Polar Edge NV--one thing I hate about that one is that you can't see the time and HR at the same time!
