Question for the Guys ... chamois butter?
I use nothing. The best thing I have found to stop the prob for me are the Trico Shorts with the gel. After 6hrs. in the saddle I never had a prob. Works for me.

Best I've done is 70 miles in tri shorts no butter... yeah i was uncomfortable, but I just figured that is part of it..

No complaints of discomfort here! Sorry!

A. I use body glide. Works for me. Even on the longest stuff...
B. I wear bike shorts. Not tri shorts... bike shorts.
Yes the pad is a bit bulky during the run, but I'm usually in so

I ride only in tri-shorts. If > 2 hours then I'll use some chamois cream. And this is fine for even 6+ hour rides.

This is one of those questions that everyone will answer differently--and they'll all be right. Anything saddle/shorts related is going to be different for just about everyone.
Half-irons are the limit for tri shorts for me. For IM, I'll be changing in and out of bike shorts.
As for chamois butter-- it does work for me, but it's not the "night and day" difference you might think it is. I'm just slightly more comfortable.
Whatever you use, use lots of it.
Bag Balm which you can buy at Costco also works...

I use body glide and I generally train in tri-shorts. I have found that for my anatomy, bike shorts have too much padding for long rides in the aero position on my tri bike. The sides of the chamois end up pushing into my leg pits (think arm pits only lower) causing irritation. The thinner padding of the tri-shorts helps in this regard (along with the body glide).
For rides on the road bike or MTB, regular bike shorts seem to be ok.
Funny story: I have a friend who always uses chamois butter. In the summertime, I am endlessly amused by him because more often than not, he will forget to apply sunscreen BEFORE the chamois butter. He unthinkingly glops the stuff all over his male anatomy, and then gets a look on his face like "Uh-oh. Now I have to touch my face!". It's quite priceless.
haven't used body glide or chamois butter ever. usually when i ride, be it training, commuting, on/off road, i go in regular bike shorts. (bibs actually, much more comfortable) i race in tri shorts. i race sprints and Xterras though, shorter distances. i am doing a HIM this season so i might have to rethink my SOP for that race.
I use Body Glide. I started using Chamois Butter and started getting saddle sores. I only add the Butt'r to my suede chamois shorts after washing. All nether region lubing is done by body glide.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

Alright - sensitive subject. What does everyone out there use? Body glide? Chamois butter? Anything? I find that on my harder rides, I spend the last few miles simply trying to get comfortable in my seat (which fits perfectly and is generally very easy on the bum) when I'm really cranking. Any suggestions?
