If one would compete in several IM´s in one year focusing just on finishing them how many IM´s would it be possible to do? or how many would it be safe to do?

Consedering the human body is capable of great things (hello ultradistance athletes) do you think it would be possible to do all 21 IM´s in a 2 year period???

Let´s forget about the $$$$!!!! Dou you believe it can be done???

How many IM´s does a pro-athelete complete in 1 year??

I´m not having crazy ideas for those of you wondering....let´s just say.... crazy dreams!!!;)

I don't think it would be possible. Recovery would be a huge issue, muscle fatigue, travelling to get to all of them and getting sick. I just finished my first IM and granted I didn't approach it with the idea of preserving myself for another 9 IM's this year, the amount of recovery that I needed pretty much leads me to believe that it would not be possible.

I would think it IS possible, but you couldn't treat each of them as your A race... (but Im sure you knew that)...

I would not do that to my self. It takes time to recover, and to continue training at that level would be difficult.

21 IM in 24 months?
I know some pros have done 3 IM in about a 3 month span. Can't imagine how the body could recovery in such a limited amount of time, even if taking up to 17 hrs to complete. The body can't stay on a peak for such an extended period.

Absolutely possible. Here's what I would do first tho. Make sure I've spent at least a year or two preparing for the first one.

Race, then make sure I'm in recovery mode for the next month. Race. Recover. Race.

Wouldn't be racing it to win, it would be racing to beat the cut-off times.

Race Across AMerica (RAAM) riders do a crazy amount of training for their event year round. So does Dean Karnazes for his ultra-running. It's totally possible. But mentally, after two years, would you want to see another M-Dot?

The last couple of books I have read for my Tri training have been sport specific. The last one was an introduction to marathon running. Some of the record holders did 1-2 marathons in a weekend, and maintained at least 1 marathon a week for several years. Granted an Ironman is a lot more then 'just' a marathon, but you only want to do an Ironman once a month, and these guys were doing 4 marathons a month so I definitely think it is possible.

Dreams are what keeps me training! Right now my dream is a podium finish in my first HIM (for my age group) and then my first Ironman at Ironman Florida next year.

Definitely possible. When I was at IM Wisc. last year there was a guy who had already done 8 IMs that year. IMWI was to be his 9th and he had more planned for the year. They had him stand up at the players meeting and talked about it. I believe he had finished something like 45 IMs so far. I wish I could remember his name. Seems like I remember him being a hispanic fellow. Or maybe his name just sounded hispanic...anyway, that shows that it can be done in my book. Wouldn't recommend it, though.

Yeah, this guy was in LP too I believe. No mention during the pre or post racing events, but I heard more than one athlete talking about it. I think his goal is to complete 100 total.

Yeah! The idea of course isn´t to treat each race as an A race.

Just finishing them.

But I guess for doing that... you have to be rich or get sponsorship.

That´s what I think about when I´m showering and whenever I´m alone.

Will I ever try it? I don´t know! For now it´s just a wish or a dream maybe. For actually doing it I would have to walk a couple of extra miles down the crazy road.:D

I know a woman who did the Grand Slam- four 100 mile running races in a 3-4 month period. She aged 5 years in appearance. An amazing testiment to her will but was it worth it? Guess you would have to ask her.
I have done iron distance races 13 and 28 days apart without injury but that was long ago.
