After reading the peter reid article in Triathlete magazine (yeah, I know I am no peter reid!) I was thinking about doing some cyclocross for winter training. Anyone out there do cyclocross to train and if so what bike do you suggest? Unlike my other bikes, I am looking for "value" with this purchase. So far I am leaning towards the Fuji Cross Comp. Anyone know this bike? Thanks for any input.

I have a Felt F1X, I don't think it gets better as far as value. Full Ultegra bike for $1,475. Remember, a cross bike is basically a road frame, so you can change the tires and you get 2-in-1. I don't know how you get more value than that.

CROSS!!!
hands down one of the greatest sporting events out there... only place you will see pro's grabbing cups of beer of hydration.

I also own a felt f1x... weird. I may be switching though to a scott frame because of sponsorship issues. But the fuji would be fine... remember keep it light!!! uphills and running with the thing on your back get's really annoying if it's really heavy... plus whatever you think the wieght is, add 10lbs of mud! that's your bike weight.
I'd most likely try ebay... it's off season now and you could clean up with great deals.
Lastly if you're in the PA NJ area, go to the Trexeltown Velodrome bike swap in early October.... killer deals... i picked up my felt frame and fork there of 230 USD... can't beat that anythere!

I think I'm going to try racing 'cross this winter too. I've been eying the felt f1x. A bunch of people from my collegiate cycling team raced cross last winter and it seemed like they had a great time...

You'll be extremely pleased with the F1X! I've had mine for about 8 months now, it's logged plenty of miles both off and on the road. I don't race in traditional cross events. I use it mainly to ride fire roads in the mountains and as a winter training bike. They kick tail in the snow! The narrow tire offers great traction, and flying across snow covered roads and fields adds a new dimension to winter training. Keep you off the trainer everday!
