swim workouts?

i get bored most easily during swim training. The view doesn't change, and I tend to do the same things over and over. I'm the sort of personality that can knock out the work IF it's written down beforehand. If I don't have that focus, the workout is usually lame.

How do you guys mix up your training sessions? Are there published workouts available on the web?

I guess this is a question for tribro in some ways...is it possible to make a workout database on trifuel? It could work something like having sections for Sprint, Oly, 1/2IM, IM. In, say, Olympic, you might have a whole bunch of 2000-3000 yd workouts to pick from. Trifuelers could just look up a new one to try for their next training session or to plan their week or season. And, to build the database, they could post their favorites. [Tribro, this part is just a dream, really.]

Thanks up front for any help you can provide.

You might want to check out the following product (not an endorsement)...

Thorpes and Phelpses Finis SwiMP3 goggles.

I haven't used the product myself, but I'm planning on upping my one K swim workout to 2K and if this works as well from swimming as my iPod works for running -- I should do well.

I've been wondering how well the SwiMP3 works. It looks like a pretty nifty device. So far I haven't been become bored with swimming. Running seems to be the less fun part of it. Hopefully that will change as I progress. Cycling is always great though. :)

As far as workouts go - I need to have mine laid out as well.
One of the things that I used was Swim workouts in a binder http://www.trisports.com/worinbinswim.html
They are plastic coated and broken down to different types of workouts. So you can just put it right at the waters edge.

Just realized you posted this a while ago, but I'm similar and if I didn't have something written down I would just go swim a straight distance. When I trained for my HalfIM this spring, the training plan had 20 or so different workouts, so I typed them all up on index sized blocks, cut them out and laminated all of them with the #1 in big, then I stuck them in my swim bag and only had to grab a laminated number before I left the locker room. So if you find a database, this could be a good way to just have workouts ready for you to grab in any random or organized fashion you think up.

[i showered that day back in july, but it seemed like no one wanted to talk to me... :) ]

thanks for the replies!
i have since found some workouts listed on trinewbies...
i'll check out the "in a binder" workouts, it looks like there are more than one (biking too). i have started logging my workouts for reference, but i haven't gotten formal about the format. maybe that will help...

We carry it too https://www.usasportstraining.com/shop/swimming-books_17/workoutbinder_49.html

There is at least one other that we'll add on our next order that is very nice as well.

If there's anything that you'd like to see, please drop us a line. We'd like to carry what you want and always try to pass the savings on by keeping our costs down as much as possible.

I have the swimp3 an LOVE IT. It works great, and the sound is quite good. I use it in both OW and the pool, keeps the boredom away.

My girlfriend actually just gave me a SwiMP3 for my birthday this weekend. So far I've done a pair of 2500M workouts with it and they really seem to go by faster now that I have music to kill the monotony. I have no way of verifying it but I FEEL like I was able to swim with a higher intensity during my speed workout while listening to some fast paced music. (I'm not very religious about watching the lap clock, so I don't know the actual effect on my speed). I love it so far, and the sound quality is more than adequate, and certainly beats the alternative.
