Tendonitis
With my wrist tendonitis my doctor told me to use ice...but I am no doctor...
If it is swollen/inflammed, use ice. If it's neither of those, use heat. If you are running on it, then use ice for 10-15 minutes directly after the run/bike/whatever. I have patellar tendonitis, and that worked for me, atleast the ice did. Usually tendonitis is caused by weak muscles around the area. Try some PT (physical therapy) as they know specific exercises that can help strenghten those surrounding areas.
Hello my friend:
Icing always helps in this kind of athletic injuries...
Now, as I stated before in other posts, you can use a little twist with the ice, and that is using ice and hot at the same time. Put ice for like 15 min, and the switch for other 15 min, of hot compress or bag...that for a few times at the end of the day helps to stop the inflamation.
Now if you come back from a ride or run...only ice, the efect of low temperatures in soft tissue that is swollen lasts longer....and at the end of your day, the two temperatures.
Streching is crucial, nice and easy as soon as you go back in action, carefully develope a routine to avoid new injuries.
For like a few days OTC NSAIDS might be of good help, twice or three times a day, with meals.
Don´t try to go back into action to soon, give it time to heal and you´ll be just fine.
Best wishes from this side

I was just diagnosed with tendonitis in my ankle. I rested it for about a week - before I went to the doc. By rest - that means no running - so I made the week a bike focus week - and kept up on the swimming. After the doc checked it out - said it was tendonitis - then I asked the scary question - When can I start running again? To my elation he said that he wants me running again immediately! :D He is a Sports Medicine Dr. and knows that I race. He put me on an anti-inflammatory. And has me doing an ice massage twice a day. So, not just sitting with an ice wrap, but actually massaging the ankle with ice for 15 min. As for running - right now I am to run on flat surface (normally I run lots of hills) and on level blacktop. So it is off to the paved bike trail for me. :)

Ok, suffering in my ankle from tendonitis. (Outside, just below ball of the ankle joint I'll call it.)
Anyone got any treatments that they recommend?
Besides rest of course! ha ha
Seriously though, hot vs. cold?
Thanks!
