Well, looks like the Tour may be raced with a new set of contenders. Ullrich and Basso have both been named in the Operacion Puerto blood doping scandal.

What do you think? Will this blow over or be the sports biggest scandal?

I think they are just blowing smoke to stir things up before the Tour.
CAS just approved Astana-Würth to race; Ullrich was cleared to race earlier in the week.
Until the Spanish Courts actually release official documents and/or press charges against riders, then it wouldn’t be fair to stop anyone from riding in the TdF (this seems to be the CAS stand).
Of course this makes for great drama, that and the fact that the TdF is competing with the World Cup…they have to add something to make it more exciting.

Holy Smokes!!

I hope all these teams have some solid evidence against the riders they are pulling. Can you imagine what would happen if these riders were actually innocent? The TdF might be ruined forever.

Of course if these riders are found guilty, the cycling world is going to be turned upside down.

Here is the latest list of all those off to the dust bin of tour history:for now anyway.

At least Vino and his team are back in.

There is no proof yet that they doped...but there is proof that they had contact with the accused doctor. Since the riders previously denied this contact in a written statement, they were suspended.

whatever the case...it's not good for the sport. I'd like to believe the bad guys got caught...so lets start the race tomorrow with all clean athletes, but we all know that probably is not true.

What a sad day for cycling. Ullrich, Basso and Mancebo OUT, all 3 probably would have been in the top-5…all I can say is WOW.
I guess I need to retract my earlier post. The only good thing out of all this is that the American’s now have a really good shot at winning the Tour (Landis, Hincapie).
Now what happens if Basso and Ullrich (and the other riders are cleared)? Can they sue for some major damages?
