Managing pre-race anxiety
Center yourself in the Force, young Padawan. Know that your training is now complete and you are the master of the day. Don't think of the race in it's entirety. Focus only the immdediate, the now, close your eyes while standing on the beach and take a deep breath and know now is your time.

Of course it's 'effing hard, it's IRONMAN!
Triathlete magazine had a good article on pre-race anxiety. They discussed how energy is used just through having anxiety, and also doesnt help to gain a full nights sleep. A couple of useful tips they gave were to;
Go through your race in your head, imagine your start, your perfect stroke through your swim, your flawless T1 and what you have to do, a good solid bike consuming some calories, clean dismount with a quick entry to T2, a smooth exit to a crampless run.
Also, 3 weeks away, you can do a few things, your travel plans, when to arrive (I always suggest atleast getting there two days before the event), picture your morning of, waking up, eating the right food, stretching before the race, your commute to the race, and setting up your transition area.
If you think it all through, calmly, you will be fine. I personally think its better to think it through rather than avoid it and freak out a few days before. The night before a race - my mind is cycling through the race, my times, how its going to go, etc. My gf hates it, cause I dont listen to anything she says the night prior. haha.

"Its an addiction"

My first ever triathlon is in a little over 3 weeks. Even three weeks out, if and when I envision myself at the start line, I get so anxious-- and its still 3 weeks away!!! Anyone got any good advice on how to chill out???:eek:
