I've just finished my first Triathlon, and I loved it ! The only problem with the whole race was my bike. I was riding a bike that I thought would be decent but turned out to be horrible. I've since been able to borrow my brother- and- laws racing bike and boy what a difference. My question is does anyone know of a good bike for less than 600$ that would suit my needs. I plan on using the racing bike in my next triathlon. I really have know idea of what is great, good, or bad bike is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Brent [/FONT]

i have a Giant OCR3 and it cost me $800 after it was said and done with the comp, cages, pedal, etc. it has been a great entry bike for me. i have had it for about 18 months and i have put about 2500 miles on it with no problems (knocking on wood).
I would def recommend it!

Buy used. Only way to get a good quality bike on that budget. Shop around, be patient, and you'll find something.

Is the Mercier from Bikesdirect.com? I bought the Mercier serpens this spring from them and love it. It's a great ride and is as solid as any bike shop bike I tried. It came with full Ultegra Equipment at half the price of a bike shop bike. I was wary about buying online but was very happy and just ordered my wife a bike from them for her to ride.

Yes, the bike is from bikes direct and I wasn't to sure if it's to good to be true! Its a 2007 mercier for 395$ I was hoping someone would have something to say about it. So thanks for the input.

Problem witht he galaxy is that it is outfitted with Sora. BLECH!! Sora is throwing your money away. At LEAST get Tiagra, and 105 is the absolute best buy in bike components.

I doubt that seat is going to be comfortable, and it comes with poor wheels. I suggest saving up some money. $800 on those sites gets you a decent bike that wont really need to be upgraded.

Save up and invest in a decent ride, your wallet will thank you later. I dont make much $$ and sacrificed a LOT (a month or so of eating ramen and pasta and not going out at all, plus some other stuff) and got a Trek E7. Couldnt be happier. Havent had any breakage and can keep up with anyone. Theres no blaming the bike or serious bike lust.

A friend of mine just got this bike...it seems pretty decent and came with some aero clip on bars and SPD pedals. The pedals were not that great but it seems like a good entry level bike.

I really appreciate all the advice. I think I'll take the Triguys suggestion and save up the mulah$ and buy a bike thats not going to require to many upgrades. I'm new to the sport and when it comes to bikes my knowledge is very limited. If anyone has any advice on the correct size I'll need please let me know. I'm 6 ft and I'm 213 pounds, so naturally I race in the Clydesdale catagory. Once again I really appreciate the help.

The motobecane tri-bike for $895 seems a good deal. 105 components.

Check it out.

I did my first tri last year using my son's (child's) mountain bike. I also loved the race though the bike portion was difficult because there were some serious hills. Don't really know how I stayed on the bike! I got a K2 road bike for my next race for about $550 and probably will never upgrade. It is great. I am so far doing only sprint races. K2s can be found at Trizilla.com
