Heat Stroke

Hi all-
Yesterday, after a recovery ride in 97 degree heat, I began to work on my computer.
Before long, I felt nauseas, dizzy, and began sweating ALOT. Dripping while sitting on the floor, kind of persipration.
I had to lie down for around 90 minutes before I felt safe walking and driving.
Was this heat stroke?
I've never had this happen, and my hydration levels were fine, given my clear urine color.
Thanks!

Dizziness, nausea and profuse sweating...Sounds like heat exhaustion to me. Heat stroke has a lot of the same symptoms but is charecterized by dry skin, not profuse sweating. Heat exhaustion can occur despite high fluid levels, since it's just that, heat exhaustion. If it was 97 there's a chance the temp did you in even though it was a recovery ride.

It is not just hydration, but your electrolyte balances. Sodium, potassium etc. When it is hot take in fluids certainly, but supplement with Enduralytes, or Succeed or whatever. Must replace those electrolytes.

Okay. Will work on balancing all of these supplemental components of hydration. Now if I can just get myself to the pool and do my swim workouts!

On really hot days I often supplement before a ride or long run...as well as make sure I keep up supplementantion during the workout...if it's a long one. I use Succeed Caps...

Well, I mentioned in another post that it's currently in the 110 degree range here in Phoenix so I know from hot!

I drink 2 liters of water during the day at my office. When I get to my run or bike, it's usually 2:00pm, the hottest part of the dya. I go into my workout well hydrated. On the bike I take 2 bottles, one with GatorAid and One larger one with water. I freeze them so they have a chance of being cool after and hour. That is usually sufficient for 1-1:20 min on the bike.

For the run, I wear a fuel belt with frozen GatorAid in the 6 oz bottles the belt comes with. For a run under an hour, 2 are enough to make it through, over an hour and I take all four bottles. When I come home I drink another 1/2 liter of water and then a big glass of skim milk and vanilla flavored protien powder for a recovery drink.

Wow. 110 degrees. You must really know how to handle the heat!
I think I'm acclimated now to it, though still hoping all works well.
