I just finished my first of the season sprint triathlon Sunday. Post race and today I feel achy all over and tired. I could go for a run but I don't really want to. It's that feeling before you get a cold but I'm not getting a cold. I felt like this a bit last week and today it is just annoying me. Someone told me it may be low iron. Wondering what other people thought. What should I do? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance, Kristen

Hello Kristen:
First of all congrats!!! on your first race of the season.
The feeling that you are experiencing could be actually a cold that is around the corner...could be that you are tired, or both....
Feeling achy, is not precisely a symptom of iron defiency.
Particulary after a race, that is a pretty good effort, not only phisically but mentally, is well deserved to get some rest....
Going for a run might not be the best idea.
My advice to you, get plenty of rest....of sleep, 8-10 hours at night, eat really good...a balance diet, plenty of protein, to help your body to recover after the race....carb to replenish your energy stores....and pleeennnttyyy of liquids, sports drinks, plain water....spoil you with a nice treat like an ice-cream cone, or what ever you like....
If the feeling is really anoying you...might try some NSAIDS OTC.
After a few days with good rest and you taking good care of you...you´ll be just fine....
Best wishes from this side...
Rest! Take the day off...active recovery tomorrow,if you feel like it.
Sometimes we get more wacked than we realize during an event.
Check your fluid intake...make sure you are getting enough and that you are eating well.
You may be over tired from training and that is why you felt poor last week and now.
Despite what you may think...after an event it really, really, really is ok to relax for a few days and recoup.
Oh...congrats on your first of the season sprint!
I did my first whole tri of this season on Sunday, too! I normally feel like I NEED a day off after a race. However, yesterday I went for a short (35 mins or less) easy run and feel pretty good. But that's optional. Maybe hit the pool for some easy laps or an easy spin on the bike. The motion will help you loosen back up. Just make it real easy.
