finis tempo trainer suggestions

Basically, its a waterproof, electronic metronome. Although its designed for swimming, it can also be used in training to set your run and bike cadence, too.
The instructions are rather confusing (at least they were, to me) as to how the number on the display translates to the rate of the aubible "clicks." I just used my watch to record the timing of the clicks at various settings; and adjust it according to that.
For swimming, Terry Laughlin (TI) recommends about 70 strokes (touches) per minute.

My sister got me a Finis Tempo Trainer last x-mas that I want to start using.
Does anyone have experience with these and have some suggestions with regards to how I should start incorporating it into my swim sessions?
Thanks.
