Who's in for this race this weekend? Is there anyone who has done it before or scouted the bike course recently and has any tips (RV)?

We'll be getting up to Appleton Saturday afternoon, hopefully in time for packet pickup. My goals are pretty simple:

1. Finish
2. Don't get lost on the bike leg (We'll be driving the course the night before).
3. Practice IM levels of calorie intake on the bike.
4. Practice IM pacing on bike. (i.e., keep HR under control)

I might be doing the High Cliff Sprint. I like the fact that the swim is short (1/4 mile) and the bike is rather long (for a sprint - 22 miles).

I'm taking a "wait and see" attitude, and won't decide until later this week. I once again had problems with my right calf muscle this past Saturday. A mile into the 3 mile run at the Rockton Tri, that old familar feeling surfaced. I had to ease up, and my run was 2 minutes slower than last year. Luckily, my ride was a couple of minutes faster, so it all evened out. :)

I did the Sprint last year -- very fun. Both ride and run start off with a climb up the "high cliff." After that the ride course flattens out and gets fast; the run has 1 or 2 much smaller climbs on a trail in the woods and then descends back down to the finish.

Only advice I would give is get to the park early on race day--we were in a traffic jam at 6:15 a.m. last year and didn't think we would make our start. Supposedly those issues have been ironed out now, but I'm not taking any chances.

I'm doing the High Cliff HIM again this year.
It is a 'C' race for me. This is a big week for me in my training plan - doing race simulations for both the bike and swim, plus a long run. - So I will be doing a 6 - 6.5 hr bike on Saturday followed by a 30 min run. Anyway....
The bike course is not bad at all - the biggest hill is probably the one shortly out of transition, and it isn't much - just some nice rollers, as you would expect. It is a pretty fast bike.
The swim should be accurate this year - was a bit short last year.
I'm driving up Sunday morning, Little over a 2 hour drive for me.
Good luck!
Will try and pull out my Trifuel singlet for the race! :)
Maybe see you there...

Hitman, you still beat me by a bunch this year... I was stupid and took a wrong turn on the bike course (I followed last years markings at the last bridge on the way in for about 90 sec and then realized that the mark was from last year where they changed the way back into town because of construction) It was HOT this year... wow, I was even feeling the heat on the bike... Slower than last year even though they docked 100 yards off the swim.

I'll be doing big foot this weekend in lake geneva - appleton's too far away...

Thanks for the info! I did see the new swim map on the website--should be an easier course to follow than last year's point-to-point.

I'll keep an eye out for you before the race. If you're hanging around afterwards for the pasta lunch, look for me coming in anywhere between 6:00 and 6:40 (I have no idea, really). Red DeSoto tri jersey, white hat/visor, and I'll look tired. :D
