i really wanted to do a marathon this spring but decided against it after posing the question on here (my first ever HIM is in september)...

but i was thinking, there is a super sweet marathon a month after my HIM. do you think it is possible to do my first marathon a month after my first HIM? would i be in good enough shape to do it?

I would say, a month is plenty of time to recover. However, whether you're ready to do the marathon will depend on how much running prep. you've done by the 1/2 IM roles around. Preparing for the marathon after will not be a option.

I don't know your running base, therefore, I'm not sure if the following is applicable. If you really want to do the marathon, I would recommend incorporating the necessary long-runs into your training for the half (if this is feasible). By doing so, you'll have completed the required build-up for the marathon. Use the next month to recover and do some maintance work then hit the marathon running. At least, that's how I would approach it.

I would say yes. After a month you'd likely be more than recovered from the HIM. I'd say the real question though is can you normally handle the marathon distance? If you've never raced more than a 1/2 marathon, then you might need more time to get your body used to the stress 26.2 miles puts on you.

Edit: Trithis beat me to it :P
