Can't believe how nervous I was the night before my first sprint tri on Saturday (the Hyannis in MA) - but all went well and I made it through alive. They shortened the swim due to extremely choppy seas, and I'm afraid my swim training was of little use under those conditions, but it was over quickly enough. I had been very anxious about the bike, especially because of the nonstop rain and wet roads, but it went just fine. You were all right that the "crowds" were no big deal - no one drafted, everyone passed politely and nothing ever got tightly packed. Whew! Once I got to the run, I was home free and finished strong.

I had said that all I wanted was to finish my first tri in one piece...but then, of course, when they posted the resulrs, I wasn't thrilled that I hadn't placed all that high. So I have plenty of room to improve on future events. :D

Hey congrats on the finish!
And welcome to the world of trying to improve times!
That is never ending - but a really fun process.

Congrats, finishing is WAY more important, especially the first time!! So enjoy it and pick your next tri and tri to improve ( and enjoy the process while you're at it)

First off Congrats on the great job. The first and second are always the best. BTW I had to smile when I saw the title of the post. Just imagine all the dead bodies at a tri if they all DIDN'T live through it :D

Lol, BBB. Imagine 200+ dead people, lol.

Anyway, congrats, dude. I hope I manage to be alive after my first tri (possibly August).

Congrats on finishing your first tri!! I finished my first one on Saturday (Quad Cities Triathlon). It was a sprint distance as well, and the winds were high here, too. Did you find the bike to be harder than you expected with the wind? I know it slowed down all of us (even the more competitive athletes noticed it). Boo to headwinds!! It feels great to say that I've finished a triathlon, though! :-)

Congratulations to you too!

I was slowed down on the bike less by the winds than by the very wet conditions...and by the fact that I'm not the fastest biker in the world to start with. :o That's the area where I need the most improvement!

I'll get my chance on July 9, since I'm all set to do my second event already (another sprint-distance). I must have the bug!
