I just got back from doing Alcatraz. Although I cam in just a little bit behind Matt Reed, it was a fantastic race. The weather was perfect, the water was (relatively) warm, and the crowds were great!
But boy was that sand ladder tough!
I came in at 3:06 -- which was a lot better than my goal of 3:30. Given my mediocre (at best) swimming skills on a swim-heavy course, I was pretty pleased.

I just interviewed Matt Reed about his recent win at Escape from Alcatraz. Funny story was that he lost his timing chip right after the swim. That's why there are no splits for him in the official results. Good thing he won!
