Hey there! I'm doing my first NYC tri and did my first sprint tri last year. (My strenghth is running; I've done 2 marathons and a bunch of half marathons) I'm just looking for a friendly vet of the race to give me any pointers or guidance. I've visited New York and never dreamed I'd be swimming in the Hudson but I am very excited! I am just nervous about the course. Does anyone know how choppy the water will be? Is the bike course super hilly? Are there enough volunteers to help me not get lost on the course? Any advice or direction of where I can get more info would be so appreciated b/c the nyctri site doesn't really provide much. Thanks!!!

Welcome to trifuel.

I have done the NYC tri the last 2 years. I am from NJ
The swim in the Hudson isn't too bad, just try not to take in too much water. It is brackish and tastes pretty nasty. They say the water quality is good. I have taken their word for it and survived to do number 3 this year. The bike is rolling hills, nothing too bad.
The course is well marked and well populated(over 2000 entrants)
The support is great, the schwag is great, and the finish goodies are great. Thumbs up from me.
If you want to meet up, PM me
I try and get any trifuelers together if I can.
Talk to you soon
