so as a kid i had pretty frequent nose bleeds. they ranged from mild to pretty heavy. never knew why but i was always pretty healthy, very skinny. always had 3 meals a day, etc.

3 weeks ago i took a week or so off from training. i just felt i needed a break. i started back up about a week ago and lately i've been having some RIDICULOUS nose bleeds. the one today lasted a good 25 minutes and ruined a nice shirt and tie. so i've decided that this probably isnt normal.

anyone know what could be causing such heavy bleeds? i'm not blowing my nose alot, not feeling sick, not feeling any allergies yet, im eating like i normally would.
this morning i only swam like 700m and yesterday i ran about 5-6 miles, swam 1000m, and did some upper body/arms workouts.

i dont feel im pushing my body too hard yet im left with these ridiculous bleeds. and they usually happen like this morning, a few hours after my workout.

any advice? any ideas of the causes??

thanks in advance

Hello my friend:
I hear you....when I was a child I used to have the same problem...but since my teens till´now...no problem at all...
From a medical point of view...a nose bleed coulb be many things..
For starters allergies..that might be causing a chronic inflamatory process in the ineer lining of your nose....that is rich in little blood vessels... This sometimes is agravated if the region where you are is very dry...
Another thing could be that some of those little blood vessels are too pumped for different reasons so they burst...with a big effort, or something that raises the preasure...
I always check the eather in Tx since I used to live in Houston, and actually moving back there pretty soon...and high temperatures also might cause this problem, making this again little blood vessels to dilate and swell till´they burst.
25 minutes of a nose bleed could be a direct indication to consult with a specialist. Now a days they have some endoscopic devices with cameras and are able to exam and see first hand what is going on...probably nothing...just a dry nose....but...is better to make sure.
In the mean time try to keep your nose at all times humidified...you can use some saline solution for example, aplying it many times during the day, this might avoid a nose bleed until you get checked by an specialist.
Hope this help friend....and best of luck

I have had periodic nosebleeds every since childhood as well. I've been relatively clear lately, but there have been periods that it was a real nuisance. When I was 21 I went to a conference in Vegas with a work acquaintance. I ended up getting awful nosebleeds 2-3 times a day during the trip. I assume it was the dry air, but I’ll bet the work acquaintance thought I was some kind of coke addict.

In my own experience, I have found a strong correlation between nosebleeds and my own level of hydration. I am now very diligent about staying fully hydrated all the time. I used to get nosebleeds all the time when I wrestled. Bleeding all over an opponent sure is intimidating.

that's weird cause i use to wrestle and did the same thing.

quick funny story: one time i could feel my nose was starting to realllly bleed but i was suckin it in to keep it clean. i started to tell the ref "My nose is bleeding!" but he kept sayin "i dont see any blood" so i took a deep breath and blew as hard as i could and got blood EVERYWHERE. the ref had to clean it up. he looked at me all pissed and i was like "i flippin told u but you wouldnt listen"
30 seconds later i pinned my apponent and won so it was worth it.
