I am curious which tri-suits (one or two-piece) you fellow IMers think are the best. I have used DeSoto's one piece and was not happy. I have been using Louis Garneau trishorts on some half IMs and I am unhappy with them too. The chamois is too thin and poorly stitched for an IM in my opinion. So what do you guys think? Any recommendations?

I don't recall seeing too many tri suits at IM's...
One big concern is potty stops. If you have to do your "doody" you have to peel pff the whole suit almost...
Shorts and top separates (sp) are best.
Myself I don't like tri shorts. (In a high pitched voice) I like the protection of regular bike shorts (good name brand ..not cheapies) for the long haul. (end high pitched voice.) I wear an older pair where the padding is more supple from use. Seperates also allow you to change shirts in T-2 real quick.
I have been happy with Suogi. I use some of their shorts for short races.

I go 2 piece....the potty stop issue would be a pain in a one piece. I mostly wear Suogi for top, and wear tri shorts-- I train in them and have a comfy saddle so its no biggie.

I like the tri shorts and top separate. The pad is a bit thinner than normal cycling shorts, but if you ride in them enough you wil get used to the minimal pad.

If you want to be comfortable, than don't worry about the tri shorts. Find a really good pair of cycling shorts and change in to them in T1 and then change into running shorts in T2. Just remember that is going to add a few minutes to your time. If you are going a podium spot/PR/good time, wear tri shorts and don't change at any point during the race. Just ride often in your tri shorts nad you wil lget used to the pad.

I agree about wearing separate shorts and top. What I was really asking about is who out there makes the best short and/or one-piece. You know, who has the most comfortable and or durable chamois. I realize that cycling shorts are the most comfortable, but I have no intention of wearing them in a race. I like to wear the same thing for all three legs of the race. So maybe I can restate it like this: Who makes the best tri short and/or trisuit for long course triathlon?

I love Craft. I have the training kit (shorts and top). I have gone up to HIM with training rides in the 60-70 mile range with no discomfort. At least no more than normal cycling shorts. I found them (both top and shorts) to be very comfortable and breathable, too.
You could also try DeSoto. They have a full refund/exchange program so if you ride in them once or twice and don't like them, you can send them back. I just got a pair of their bib shorts and they are UNBELIEVABLE. (400 mile bib-shorts).

A lot of the top AG'ers and pros on Gordo Byrn's forum stand by Oomph tri shorts. I think the latest thread I saw hearlded the Lava short as top of the top.

I am still at the half-IM distance and like my shorts. They will be able to go another race or two but they are wearing out. I am going to try the Oomph tri shorts next.

I use Pearl Izumi tri shorts for all 3 legs. Last time I added a top in transition, as I was wearing a cycling jersey and then a tank for the run. This year I'll have a Trifuel tank jersey to wear the whole race :)

I love the PIs and the Trifuel top... highly recommend both!
