Lake Mills
I also did the race just to race my way into shape. I'm coming off a pretty tough last 2 weeks of training (no marathon or anything like that though) and I got back from the usat level 1 coaching clinic in colorado springs about 3 hours before I had to leave for the race. Just enough time to unbox my bike and put it together, no chance to ride it until the race... Somehow my seat slipped back on my seatpost so I moved it forward again, but I accidently moved it too far forward on the wrong side of my marking and it felt significantly too low and forwards and I felt really inefficient. I'll have to fix it later today. That's why it pays to take a spin after you put your bike back together before you jump into the race just to make sure everythings right.
The swim went normally. I felt good, but I swam significantly off course so I came in with an 8:20. I forgot my bodyglide so I couldn't get my wetsuit off in t1. Wow you don't realize just how much it helps until you go without it. My bike ride was signicantly below my usual standard both because I have been working on my running instead lately and because of my positioning. I did use my new infinit nutrition mix and it seemed to work really well. I have the most easily upsettable stomach in the whole world it feels like but it was alright today. T2 went smoothly and then I had the best triathlon run that I've ever had I think. I mean I actually passed quite a few people on the run and that NEVER happens. Must of helped that my bike ride was so slow. Part of it was because I carried one of those little 8 oz hand flasks of water so I could drink more frequently than just at the water stations (a dry mouth is one of the triggers that set off my stomach) and part of it was that I've really been working on my efficiency. So yeah, my performance was good for winning 15-19 (yeah, I know usat considers me 20, but they did it by race day age) and 22/257 women...
Congrats on winning your age group!

Thanks! It was kind of a surprise because I didn't know they considered me 19 until I looked at the results and both of the 20-24s that beat me passed me on the run...
It looks like you had a good race too, especially on the bike!
Hey it's two wisconsonites!
Either of you doing elkhart lake next weekend?

I'm actually an Illinoisian, but close to WI... Nope, next week I'm just running a 5k in Beloit on Saturday then doing a 40k bike tt on sunday. Then the week after saturday Rockton (IL) Tri then possibly the triterium tri in Verona if I'm feeling good. Then on the 25th, the Big Foot tri (oly) in lake geneva and after that I'm taking a break from racing for a while...
Gook Luck at Elkhart Lake! I thought about it but decided to do the closer races.
Congrats RV & catwood on 2 really good races!

Did my first tri of the season this morning - Lake Mills Sprint. This was a C race for me.
Nice to be racing again. Weather was great.
Tim and Nicole DeBoom raced here today. Odd thing was that they started the Pros and Elites. Then 2 waves of novices - one male and one female. Then a 15 minute gap to the next wave. Arg!
My swim was not what I wanted - I got my HR way up at the start and that threw off my breathing - took a quick breather doing breast stroke for a few strokes - second half of the swim I settled in. T1 went fine. Wanted to have a strong bike. The course is pretty fast - lots of relatively small rollers. Averaged 23.85 on the bike - good for 16'th overall. T2 went fine as well. The run was a flat out and back. Felt pretty good think I recovered from last weeks marathon pretty well. Ended up with a 1:11:28 - good for 6'th in my age group, 54'th overall. Was a little more than 2m30s faster than last year. Overall was a nice race to shake off some rust.
