race wheels for 70.3
Good on ya mate!
I'm doing a 70.3 July 2nd. I was wondering the same thing.
I'm sticking with my Mavic Cosmic Carbone SSC.
I guess it also depends on the surface of the bike course.
Zipp 404 is pretty solid, on hills, in the wind and aero too.
Same goes for the Mavic Ksyriums.
If it's smooth asphalt and "just" wind, I'd go ( if you've got the cash) for the Zipp 606.
Hed's got some nice wheels too, the Jet is a pretty good model.
But I can't tell what you can/like to spend.
Good luck buddy!

It ain't much, if it ain't Dutch!!
I was thinking of using the zipp 808 front and rear, but again, I'm not sure about the wind conditions. Thanks for the heads up though
This is my first Eagleman..but I've ridden the course for years and done some Du's in the same area...
The Wind can be...a challange. The course is virtually flat. I think the elevation gain is about 4 feet.
There are large open sections of road with no cover nor anything to break the wind.
If it's windy...404's would be good. Any deep dish would be ok. Skip a disk.
If it's calm....very rare... anything is fine. But then again, you won't know that till race morning.
See you there..best of luck...
I'm in 50-54 and have a big hookin' M-Dot tat on my right calf.

Wow, the 808.. damn those are good lookin'
Yeah the 808 are good, but maybe they are too deep for windy conditions? They are "advertised" as very aero.
If you can take Zipp's on advise, the 808 and 606 both act the same way in crosswinds.
606 are lighter though.
Good luck.. I'd have a hard time choosing between those wheels

The 606 is lighter because it has a 404 front and 808 back...I should have access to either 404 or 808...
Yeah I know, but now you have the aerodynamics of both. And half the weight.
Like I said, good luck making a choice...
:D

I'm riding twin HED3s at Eagleman.
If you wish to be out front, then act as if you were behind.
Go with the 808's. Unless there is Kona wind, go with the most aero stuff you got. Aero trumps weight anyway, so go for it.
God I love them 808's...
If you get those, try to get a 4 for 3 deal, we'll split the costs :D

the 808's are on my p3...it looks sick...more importantly but equally as cool when I rode them last night it felt great. I'm looking forward to riding today to see what they really feel like.
So you rented the 808's or did you buy? And for the love of all things holy, can we get a picture? Don't taunt us with thoughts of beautiful machines and neglect a photo.......
I'm only renting....I'll see if I can get a pic up....
did you rent them from trizilla.com? if so, how do you workout the tire situation? do they come with a pair?
They do not send them with tires. Sometimes with tubulars they will, but some people are picky about what tires they want, so they find it better not to send them. trizilla.com the site has all the info.
very knowledable staff...Jim has done numerous ironmans and knows what wheels will work best on what courses.

I am thinking of renting a set of race wheels for the Eagleman 70.3. Can anyone shed some light on how windy it is on the course and what wheels you have used there? thanks
