I was so proud of the fact that, despite only getting clipless pedals for the first time this January, I hadn't fallen yet at a stop light.
So today, 3 hours into a ride, I hit a red light and was thinking about something else. Suddenly I realized that I was stopped and still clipped in. I felt myself slowly start falling to the right. Time slowed...
Then I realized that to my right was an elevated patch of very soft looking grass. :p I said screw it and let myself fall. I hit the ground and started laughing.
Unfortunately I was on a highway and I imagine 100 people saw me bail, but it was funny nonetheless.:D
good work. once we feel really comfortable, you should learn how to do a trackstand so you can stop without having to unclip. i suggest learning this with regular shoes on - maybe screw around in the garage/yard until you are comfortable doing it.
i just noticed you are from vancouver - i'll be up there in a few weeks for the alcan dragon boat festival!
if i had to move out of the US, i would move to vancouver.... an absolutely beautiful place.
congratulations!
Sorta like being initiated into the clique, welcome dude!! :D

I agree. I think I'm kinda spoiled living here sometimes and forget just how beautiful this place is compared to much of the rest of the world. I imagine the other Vancouverites here will say something similar...
I just wish it didn't rain quite so much :p
Amen, we ride all year round. And in the summer have great mountains to ride (Cypress, Grouse and Seymour) Yee haw. Make for great 100+ training rides from my house and the scenery along the mountain roads are awsome. Yes, we are spoiled here.

I managed to avoid ONE on wednesday while at a stopsign, I unclipped then....... (has anyone else ever gotten their unclipped leg caught in the space between the trailing edge of their front tire and their downtube, oh-YEAH..while the other foot is clipped in???)
 I was amazed that I didn't bite it..
(so was the guy riding with me)
I'm curious what a trackstand is? Please explain it sound interesting to learn ...if I just knew what it was!!!
trackstands are cool, you are stopped, and stand up with your feet in the pedals (so they are at the same middle level)...and balance...my boyfriend in college loved cycling, and it was his favorite thing to do that at every red light...
I like getting literally off the bike, and then get back on it...to practice transitions (but my transition times suck)...
