What do the Hammer users think of HEED and Perpetuem for use during sustained excercise sessions (4 hours or so) and during 70.3 races. I have used more conventional nutrition sources such as Clif Shot drinks and gels but I just switched over to Hammer during training. I'm doing Eagleman in 12 days and the plan was to try to get aclimated to Hammer because I believe it will be advantageous to use during the race. Any thoughts, experiences?

my only thought is that HEED tastes like crystal light without the sugar... *yuck*

( I like the libral mixing directions 1-2 scoops per 16-20 oz.)
you can either put 1 scoop in 20 oz or 2 scoops in 16oz. or any variation between the two
Kinda makes you wonder how they know the nutritional values??

I have never used Heed but I use Perpetuem on the bike with Nuun for electrolytes and they work great.

Be aware of overloading your perpetuem as you can increase the concentration, if you do make sure to drink some water at the aid stations, i generally use 2 scoops for a 20-24 oz bottle. Also it warns against simple sugars being used wiht it, not sure if there is much to that but I did find that in IMC last year I had some GI distress after drinking some gatorade at the end of the bike.

I recently switched over to Perpetuem from using gels. I'm very happy with the difference in my energy level over a longer period of time.

The one beef I hear over and over from Hammer customers is that it tastes really bad after a while and esp after it gets warm. Tough to get calories if you do not want to drink it.

I've decided to go totally Hammer...no mixing with Gatorade, or any other junk (i.e. simple sugars) the race provides. I've had stomach issues, and it seems to be much better sticking just with Hammer's products. Right now I'm using Sustained Energy mixed with water only on the bike, and am working out the amount of E-caps I need in addition (there's no electrolytes in SE). I use gel and water, with E-caps of course, on the run.

I've been visiting the Hammer Yahoo group at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/endurancelist/ and it has been helpful reading what the makers of Hammer suggest. There is a recent post describing all three powder products. I think I may try the Perp because it has electrolytes in the mix.

Restarting this thread cuz I just started using Perpetuem and want to see if any of you have suggestions or comments about it 2 years later. I did see the yahoo group for Hammer and joined, but I'd like to hear from the Trifuel family first. :)

Do you follow scoop/body weight reccomendations? It looks like it would be best to freeze it the night before a race. I figure I'll try to keep it in my polar bottle on race day to keep it cold. Any other suggestions?

What about Sustained Energy?

It works, I used it for quite some time - but have since switched to Infinit.
I followed the recommended # of scoops.
It just gets nasty as it gets warm and will actually sour in hot temps. That is why I switched - as well as because that may be an issue at IM - that it goes bad in your bike SNB or having to mix it up during the race.
