OverDistance Training
I think when it comes to overdistance training it is mainly a matter of personal choice. With regards to swims I always do a few full distance swims to gauge the feeling and gain confidence in being able to do it. You can do the full distance swim then ride but how far is a matter of choice and where you are. The key is being able to run after the bike and it seems like you have that under control.
Good training.
Thanks James. I'm looking foward to seeing how it all comes together.

I try to maintain a 10:1 mile ratio (BIKE:RUN) on my brick workouts. A coach told me that, and I've been training like that for while, and it works great for me!
I think the mind plays such a huge part in all this. To me, having done the distance in each discipline and possibly a little more, separately or together, gives me a confidence in the event. There are already so many unknowns in these events.
Having done marathons you will understand this. I came from a marathon background myself. For me, the mileage of my longest training run was always the spot where I started to unravel on the marathon.
For me, nothing has built confidence like the longer brick workouts and you have done that. The swim, for me again, is a warm up for a bike ride; do the distance, have a good bike and run.

I agree entirely. For me, the swim is just taking however long I need to cover the distance. Then I can start competing in the bike and run.

I Believe In Cross Country

I'm currently training for my first Oly-Distance Tri. Coming from a marathon background, and completed a few sprints in the last year.
I'm a bit confused on bricks. I know with cycling and swimming one can handle a larger amount of over-distance training, than with running.
Do I try to swim 1 mile consecutively? I know I can run a 10k after a 27 mile bike ride, did that a few weeks ago as a brick workout.
And can swim fairly well, although I will be thankful at around 1000m that I am wearing a wet suit in the water!
