New bike...buyer's anxiety

Alright I think there might be something wrong with me. I've been given the green light at home to buy a tri bike. Which is a victory in and of itself.

I went through the several months long process of test riding, researching, and thinking, and now that I've picked out a bike, I can't seem to actually buy it. What is up with that?! It has been over a month since I picked out this bike...and it is still in the shop!

It's like I'm afraid to do this, or something. Like I may not feel worthy of it. I was going to go last night to buy it, but didn't. This pre-purchase anxiety is something I'm not familiar with. I'm sure once I walk in the shop and see it standing there I'll be all in, but sheesh, this is a strange thing.

Been there. You've done your research. Found a good bike at a good shop. Go and get it. You won't regret it.

What bike did you select?

And for goodness sakes - go get it!

Just get the dang thing. Then you can have new bike anxiety- wait till you scratch it! Its like someone ripping your heart out and punching you in the gut at the same time.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

I understand... even if it is a cheap tri bike.. it's still over $1000

But I gotta tell you it's different if you are paying for it outright instead of financing it...

I can buy big ticket items (knowing that it'll be on credit) that I couldn't write a check for (too chicken)

I had picked the Kuota K Factor. It is a phenomenally solid and smooth ride that I could instantly tell would be comfortable over long distances. And the small fits me perfectly.

New developments since my original post. I went to look at the bike again...didn't buy it. In fact I had pretty much talked myself out of it before I went to the shop. Then I saw it again, and I wanted it. But left...no bike!

and then...

Last night went to a different bike shop and found a great deal (about 1k savings) on a QR Caliente. I wasn't able to ride it (no appropriate shoes with me), and probably won't be able to because of work committments, but could call the shop and buy it. This bike is also all carbon in the frame, like the K Factor, but has a DA rear der, a carbon crank, and Real Design deep dish wheels. It's head tube seems a little shorter which makes the ride position seem like it will be more aggressive than the K Factor's which has a slightly taller head tube. That might be a comfort factor for long distance races, not so much for the Oly or sprint distances.

Anyway, does anyone have any thoughts on the two bikes?

Both are great bikes. I wouldnt be unhappy with either one of em. Especially with $1k off the Caliente. Thats a hot bike.

Wow - I sometimes wish I had your problem! When I'm in the market for a bike, I research and find what I want and can't wait to put down the $$ for it. Maybe I wouldn't have 5 bikes sitting at home, or keep encouraging my BF to keep buying them too......

I bought the Caliente yesterday. And rode it briefly too. OMG! It is sweet! And the best part is, thanks to my fellow Trifuelers' encouragement I'm dealing with the feeling of having a gaping hole in my wallet! You guys are great!

The only thing now is that I am having the Vision aero bars which were on the bike replaced with Carbon Stryke's. So my hottie bike is sitting in the shop for a couple of days. It is a worthwhile mod though since the vision aero bars don't give me the adjustment fore and aft that I need for the right upper body position so they had to go. (vision base bar stays though!)

When I have it back and can take photos, I'll try to take time off from riding it to post some.

Thanks peeps!!

That's great! :D
Might want to look at getting a FIST bike fit.
And do post a pic. Enjoy the ride when you get it back.

At long last, here are pictures of the new ride. Some of them show the carbon stryke's which I had put on in place of the too long vision aerobars.

El Caliente is muy rapido!

You will feel less guilty buying the bike and PTing the s*&t out of yourself than you would spending the same about of money on a TV and sitting on your a$$. It is all relative.

Ah the secrets of the photographer....Hmm...to share or not to share....

No really it is just a telescopic hiking pole carefully placed under the saddle so that it is disguised by the seat tube. It works like a dream.

Actually transamman...I got it for less than that....

It ain't all wine and roses though....i've had more flats on this rear wheel than ever, and those wheels are a beee-@tch to deal with. Also the wheels do make some noise which I'm not wild about. I will be putting more conventional wheels on it for the bulk of my training. After I race it for the first time this weekend that is. And on top of that i'm having some issues with rough shifting up to the big ring. Luckily once I'm in that chainring I try to stay there, but being in CO that isn't always ideal. So I'm having to figure that out.

Anyway, glad to share....

See you at the races!
