I have not had an issue before (done a dozen tris or so) but doing IMLP this year and you hear a lot about getting your goggles kicked off....I know it happens, but not sure if it is common. But since I wear contacts, I was concerned since this will be my first IM - does anyone out there do anything special just in case - ie spare contacts at T1, other? Thanks

I have yet to lose a contact during a race, but bringing a spare set in your race bag to have at T1 (or T2 for that matter) would be a very wise decision.

If you wish to be out front, then act as if you were behind.

I've never lost a contact yet either, but I always bring a spare set just in case.

I haven't lost a pair either but I did hear a good idea. Put your googles on first and then your gap. That way if you get kicked in the face you at least will not lose googles and you can put them back on (thus hopefully saving you from losing those contacts). Not a perfect solution but it might work.

I always put a spare pair of contacts in my T1 bag...just in case. At IMLP anyway they even had a mirror setup.
For short races I just put spare glasses in T1...no time to fuss with lenses. I've never needed them even though I was elbowed in the face and the goggles filled with water at IMLP two years ago.

Never lost a contact during a race, but I guess reading this I should probably keep spare ones on hand... The only time I've lost my contacts in the water was during lifeguard training and I swam competitively with my contacts for 4 years... I guess that's a good idea - don't know why it never occured to me that I might lose a contact during a race...

Yea, Ive never lost a contact either. I always pack an extra set just in case. :D Nothing worse than not being able to see where your going ;p.

Never a problem with my contacts, but now that you mention it I guess it might be a good idea to keep a spare pair or my glasses at T1.

i just started wearing contacts and my doc said that i shouldn't wear contacts in the water, because it easliy can cause an eye infection. yuk! i think there are goggles and definitely sun glasses that can have your prescription put into the lens. just a thought....

i wear contacts and i surf. i am not sure where imlp is (don't recognize the "lp") but if it is in the ocean, even losing your goggles should not likely matter. sea water is a natural equivalent to saline solution.... so it just lubes your eyes right up. if it is in freshwater, well you could likely have a problem.

even mild splashing hasn't removed a contact for me.... crashing wave in front of you cramming water in your eye.... that will pop one of those suckers out right away though.

of course, it's always a good idea to have an extra pair of contacts though.

my goggles broke 30 seconds before the swim start in the first race of the season..i swam 600m n a lake with a wetsuit on and no goggles. I didnt lose a contact, but wen my head was in the water, i closed my eyes and wen i came up to breeth i would open and look for the bouy like i normally would
