650 are easier climbing and are quicker taking off....700's are better/faster once you get up to speed.

650's are better if your a smaller guy, like on my 51cm frames the 650c make the bike handle better, it would be a freaking boat w/ 700's

What do you consider small? My wife is 5'6" and we just ordered a new frame with an effective top-tube length around 51cm, but selected 700c wheel since she's a strong girl that doesn't need much help in climbing / sprinting and doesn't want to give up top-speed.

How important is handling given that you'll spend most of your time going fast and straight?

Really curious to hear what y'all think...

here is the deal, if your a average sized guy with 700c's you can turn your front wheel with out rubbing your toes on the wheel, on my 700c road bike my toes get bumped if i turn the wheel hard (like in a u turn if i try to pedal through) i dont want that to be an issue on a race.
also the handeling maynot be a big deal on a tri, except in the transitions i want my bike to still be instantly responsive in bullhorns, and 700c are just to slugish it seems for me,

now one thing about 700c's that i do like is they are a bit more stable, when i let go of the bars and stear w/ my hips on a ride 650c takes a bit more effort to controll (but i also like my bikes to twitch like a rabbits nose) 700c you can stear around a 90* corner with little effort

Duse, we've discussed this one. Search the forum, Triguy posted a good article here: http://www.trifuel.com/forums/showpost.php?p=40856&postcount=3
