Hi folks,

I'm here to ask you another 'silly' question. I am currently swimming 2000m per training. I can bike 100+ km and I can run 10km.

Is it possible for me to prepare for an IM in only 1 year? I think that it might be too little time to prepare but I'd like to hear you guys opinions. I do not intend to finish FAST but only to FINISH without thinking I'm gonna die.

I sure hope it's possible, because that's where I was at about a year ago too!

Sure, as long as you get a good training plan to take you up to the training distances in order to complete the IM.

...just don't wear headphones during training of the bike. I hear it's unsafe :D (just havin' some fun here) hehe.

Hey folks! Thanks a lot for the input! I just gained a big motivational load! Today I am going to re-make my training plan (based on the Triathlete's Training Bible) and start training right away!

don't train solely for the IM for the next year. That is too much time. Yo will read in the TTB that you should have other races that are goals along the way to the ultimate goal (IM). There is a pyramid in there somewhere where it breaks down base, build, peak, etc. I suggest following that. I think it is about 6-7 months long.

Yeah, glbrum! I am going to look for various other races like HIMs and Olys to fill in the gaps!

Just remembered there is a HIM in 3 months... I don't know if I can build up to a HIM distance in 3 months... :(

Go for it man. I'd agree with glbrum, beak it down and find some interim goals. it's very difficult to maintain a plan that's more than 6 months. Be sure to sign pick the one you'd like to do and sign up as soon as possible, these things fill up fast.

I'd suggest working up to a half distance for the rest of this year. Get comfortable at that volume, then take a little time off in the winter. Do other activities but a little break from constant regimen so you can attack it fresh in 2007. Then get focus on a 4-6 month Ironman plan for a race next year.

Good luck and keep us posted.
