Not hungry when I wake up
I used to be the same way. i couldnt eat anything until about an hour after i got up. Now i wake up starving and i think the answer to two fold.
1) I forced myself to eat something when i first woke up. even if i wasnt hungry at all i would choke something small down. i "trained" my body to be hungry first thing.
2) i eat about an hour before i go to bed and this keeps the metabolism high throughout the night.
I am not a dietician but i have researched this and this is just my two cents.

My metabolism, is arguably the most tempermental, untamed beast within me. It is lightning fast, and then 30 minutes later it dies out I swear.
I like to eat often, and never become too hungry, and never become too full. If this means having a salad for dinner, and then an hour later taking in a bagel because I'm hungry again, so be it.
Sometimes if I workout really hard in a day, I wake up in the middle of the night with hunger pangs.
I always workout in the morning before work, for around 45-75 minutes, then I do my second workout after work, usually between 4:30 and 5:30ish.
Let me know if you have any other comments/concerns

For the last 4 years of commuting >50min to work 5 day/week I wake up at 4:50hrs., get dressed and ride. I have never eaten before I rode to work, but as soon as I get to work though I eat my fav., BPH bagel w a coffee. It has worked for me. I think as long as one doesn't "hammer" the pace and goes<70% HRmax. all is fine. Like I said, it's worked for me for 4 years and I will continue as I have been doing.

During the week - I will get up and do whatever workout that is planned without eating anything first. However, if the training session is an hour and a half or more - then I will eat first.

I never take breakfast when I woke up....nothing more than a glass of juice, or some sport drink, after my workout...PUM!!! there I go for a nice, healthy breakfast...
During the weekend when I plan my long run or ride I usually take breakfast 2 hours before going out.
Now waking up not hungry...could be that you are having too many complex carbs and fiber during dinner....could be...so that stays longer in your stomach to be digested so gives you the feeling of not needing food....

I thought that one of the worst things you can do is eat before going to sleep?
I used to have this same problem but then I did exactly the same thing as Outexan and now I wake up pretty hungry.
Hello: I am totally the opposite of you. I wake up at 3:45 am. every day to be able to get to the Y at 4:30, when they open the gym where the bikes are, so I can ride the workout for that day, or swim for about 1:30 hours, the running I do it outdoors or in my treadmill. (if I am not taking care of my grandbabies, I rather run and ride outside, weather permiting) and sometimes I wake up before the alarm because I am hungry. by 4am, I am eating a PB and J sandwich, a glass of milk, a banana and coffee, then I am ready for anything I have in my training shedule (spelling?). We usually eat dinner by 5pm. Nothing unusual, just chicken or fish, rice or pasta, vegies, salad with lots of toppings like cheese and carrots and stuff like that, fruit or ice cream or some yummy chocolate. Then, we are in bed by 8pm. to do what ever comes to mind. For me, I need food to be able to do what I have to do. You didn't mentioned if you work out in the early morning or late afternoon or in the middle of the day so that also has a lot to do with how you feel in the mornings. Anyway, I like the fact that I can eat this early in the morning because on race days, I don't have to worry about having to force myself to eat what ever I need to eat to be able to race without problems.

Usually when I wake up during the week for work I am not hungary right away. It may take an hr or two and then I am starving. I am usually rushing a bit, and dont have time for much more than a bowl of cereal or a bagel, some fruit, etc. But on the weekends I often I have something more like eggs, toast, oatmeal, etc. I have very high metabolism, and the rest of the day I eat 4-6 meals very easily, but the morning doesnt always kick start the way I want. Any ideas or thoughts on this matter?
