We have one bike rack that fits my husband's car. We put the rack on my car this weekend and it seemed to be fine...but I just looked at the manufacturer's website and discovered that this particular rack does not "fit" my car. So, I am thinking that I need to get a rack that is made to fit my car. Do you have any suggestions? I drive a Elantra Hatchback. Is a roof rack a better idea than a trunk/hatchback mount? Any things that I should look for in a rack? Thanks for your help!

i have a thule hitch rack...so it 'plugs into' my hitch receptor on my jeep...i prefer this type because i lost a bike (1 month old Scott) on the freeway years back due to the failure of the strap trunk rack ...that won't happen again!

I'm also looking into racks. I have a Yakima rack on top of my car, but no attachments. I'm a bit worried about how hard it would be to get bikes up on it (I'm 5'4" and drive a Honda CRV). But having bikes on the back of the car (either on the spare tire racks, or on a hitch rack) worries me a bit since LA drivers are not so good about following distance.

We have a thule hitch rack. I like it because its easy to 1. get the rack on and off and 2. to get the bike on and off. The roof racks seem like they would be hard esp for a shorter (or even average size ) woman to lift and get up there.

If the rack fits your car and is secure I would just use it. Buying another (unless you really need two) make no sense. Rack manufacutures do not cover the cost of the equipment, damage, etc. caused if the rack or whatever it's carrying were to fall off the vehicle. So, it is not a matter of having the correct model for warranty or insurance coverage purposes. If you can rig safely use it!

TRITHIS04 ....

That is good advice...
IF it is secure.. and doesn't scratch the bike or the car.. use it...
