I completed my first century ride this past weekend. I spent a great deal of time in the aero position which apparently led to some rash/irritation on my forearms. Should I change the type of pads I have, or is this a great excuse to start shaving my arms? It's nothing I can't deal with, I just wanted to know if it was common for those longer rides.

Way back I used to get some irritation from the pads. For me, I had my areobars set up wrong. The hand positions were angled well up. That caused a lot of pressure on the forearm. Since working that out - no more issues - also make sure you keep the pads clean. Lot of dirt and sweat can settle in there - that can also cause some rash like issues.

The title of your post is a candidate for the other thread... "you know you are a hardcore Triathlete when...."

Maybe it´s just a matter of position of the bars just like RV said. I´ve never had this problem.

My first 80+ mile ride I got arm irritation. The second time I put a little chamois cream on the pads. No more problem.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
