Question for the medical professional..
I'm not a doctor but I think you should see one. Also your achilles could be torn my friends dad had this happen and he walked around on it on a while thinking it was nothing.
its on like donkey kong
My friend, you are really experiencing some injury to worry about...
First advice from a Doctor...me....go see one as soon as possible...
What you have been doing with the icing and rest for some days is just symptomatic treatment....but hey!!!! Aquilles Tendom is a part of your body you don´t want to mess with....healing in that particular area is very difficult...long...and could get really serious...
As a doctor, I can tell you that could be many things...the worst a tear....but you need a profesional to exam you, put his/hers hands on do some manouvers, and probably prescribe you some meds, some fisiotheraphy, and so on....
Don´t take anything for granted as far as tendon injury.....
Let us know how it goes...
Best wishes...

Crap...that is kind of what i was afraid of....thanks for the imput. I am going to see a doctor next week. That was the first appointment i could get,
Could it be a stress fracture?
Will i do any more damage to it by biking and swimming?

Good plan my friend, now you have an apointment and that is good...
Stress fracture, well, could be, but I won´t put it at the top of my list, counting on the symptoms of your pain, now, that is not a reason to expell that option, you might need some X Rays perhaps to see if there is something fractured.
Now cycling and swimming by nature do not produce impact like running over joints and conective tissue and I am sure you might be afraid of loosing your aerobic base because this injury....
Try to do it as far as ther is no pain....do not go too hard or too far until a health profesional tells you exactly what to do....
Keep nursing your injury, and from here I wish you the best of luck....

I'm not a Doc or anything and it's good that you have appt. It sounds like you might have achilles tendonitis. I got it after my first marathon and it was fairly similar to your symptoms. But the guys are right, you could have a torn tendon.

Hey, good luck in it. BTW, let us know how it goes.

Just wanted to update you on the ankle....I have been icing it and popping Advil all week and the swelling and pain has greatly improved. Went to the doctor yesterday and got Xrays done...NO FRACTURES and NO REAL DAMAGE. he said the cause was a tight calf muscle that was putting undue strain on my ankle joint. so lots and lots of stretching and he said i should be good to go. .....YEAH!
I have my first olympic tri in 10 days so that was music to my ears!
Thanks for the concern everyone.

so stretching he said would help? Isn't that gonna tear or agrovate things further?

Interesting....
Streching a muscle that is tight...is a two blade knife....so better be careful...not that I am diminishing what your doctor told you....but be really careful with the streching routine....doing it very light...slow....and not forcing to much to go to far....
I am glad that it is nothing serious and you are on your way for your race....
Best of luck my friend and tell us how your race goes....

So i am having a pain that is really worrying me and i thought i would throw it out there and see if i could figure out what it was.
I completed my first half-marathon April 30th. in the following week i had a lot of tightness in my calves and some dull aching pain in my achilles. i did some light recovery training that week but nothing to severe. On friday of that week i went for a short run and my right achilles was killing me so i stopped, went home, iced it and that pain went away. The next week i skipped my monday run and trained regularly the rest of the week (only run on Friday). On Saturday i completed a 25/3 brick (in prep for an olympic in two weeks) and had no pain at all. so i thought i had it whipped. The next morning i wake up and my LEFT achilles is killing me. I lay off running last week and ice it for a couple of nights and it feels better but still not 100%. another brick this weekend, no problems. a little soreness and ice, but no injury pain. so i go for my monday run this week and BAM...30 minutes into it i can barely walk. this morning i woke up to severe stiffness, some swelling around the joint and severe pain. also a noticable limp. the pain is still in the back achilles near the attachment to the calf but the severe pain is just medial to the mallues on the outside/middle of the ankle joint.
i know that is long but i was wondering if there are any thoughts on possible injuries/if i need to see a doctor/ treatment.
I rode 25 miles this morning and NO PAIN while riding but cant walk for crap.
Thanks for the help!!
