Which is the LEAST competitive IM for 25-29ers to Qualify?
I wold say malaysia. I think that one had a pretty small field this year. Look into the newer foreign country ones. They'll all be competitive but those may be a little smaller. Also later in the year may be better as some may have already qualified and slots might slide down.
Honestly, seeing as the four Kona Qualifiers at IMFL were under 9.5 hours...
One thing to keep in kind about the smaller races like IMWA: the lower the # of entrants, the lower # of qualifying spots. And IMWA only has 2, whereas IMFL has 4.
Also, traveling that far for a race will likely take a lot of time to acclimate and be ready for a top performance. For us non-pros, I would think it would take a week or so to adjust to the times and get over the jet lag. I would think an IM NA event would present the absolute easiest route into Kona..besides the lottery.

you may end up having better luck at the larger races...
i'm shooting for clearwater 70.3, and since timberman is a bit smaller than other qualifiers i need to get 1st/2nd in 18-24. Check out some bigger races. you might have luck.
....
or a half like eagleman with spots to kona.

I don't know how fast you are, although I'm guessing you are pretty fast, most of the slots don't get taken for Clearwater. Just an FYI. I did CA 70.3 earlier this year and although I didn't get 1st/2nd for a slot I could have gotten one if I had gone to the awards and roll down stuff. So either way, you can probably pick up a slot if you don't win one. Good luck.
Damn, my first IM 70.3 and I'm gunnin'for Antwerp 70.3
And I hope to qualify in the 25-29 agegroup for Clearwater.

I'm not even going to try and qualify for Kona....

It ain't much, if it ain't Dutch!!

IM NA? You mean North America?
I imagine that there is some stat thing I can run on the result sets. Something like total racers versus qualifers.
All the races have a "slots" section under race info. At least the races I looked at did. It will tell you the maximum # of slots available on any given year (which will fluctuate with actual entries recieved.) Just check the results and compare your times and the course difficulty level. In any case, it's gonna be a bear to qualify! If I dont make it by the time I am 30 (which is likely the case) I'll start looking at the lottery.

Triathlete Magazine did a special magazine one month called "The Road to Kona"....It broke down all of the HIM and IM races throughout the world that are qualifiers for Kona. Contact triathletemag.com and see if you can get your hands on one. ;p

"Which is the LEAST competitive IM for 25-29ers to Qualify? "
most here are type A so we would say find the hardest race possible and crush it. if ya can't qualify your just not gonna get the slot !
work hard'er' ...
Off topic : i would almost hope at some point the lottery at kona comes to an end... specifics as to why ? Ehhh.... a couple years ago I know 5 people that got into KONA. They all live within 5 squares miles of each other. When you have the church and the richest family pulling the strings well ... there ya go.

I suspect I am more of a flat course guy and am looking to qualify in 07. What would I have an easier time at, ceteris paribis - Western Australia or Florida? And what if I was equally good on all courses - where to then?
Or is the 'market' so efficient that you can't get any advantage by going to the otherside of the world?
I wouold figure your pimped out Guru would take you all the way there. You don't even have to do any work. Just show up.
Ahh. Guru envy. Suppose to get it Saturday (finally) but I think I am going to be too ill and too busy to go get it.
I realize the probability of making it is near zero, but I need a purpose to aim for.
Learn... I went snooping around in IM race results...nothing better to do as I'm tapering this week. I looked at a number of IM's and halves...
You are going to have to work very hard...
At the 70.3 races,It's one slot.
As already mentioned for IM's the number of slots depends on the number of young studs in your age group.
In 2005:
IMW had 186 in your ag and had 6 slots. Age group winner in 10:29
IMLP had 130 and 5 slots...winner in 9:49
IMUK had 1 slot...and a small age group.
The 25-29 age group winner at Eagleman came in in 4:25....with of course one slot.
You MIGHT be lucky...IMW rolled down to the 14th slot last year. (11:10) !
Your best cahnce of getting a slot might be a age up to 50 54 and an sex change...
there were several instances last year of women getting slots for Kona at foreign IM's by simply finishing the race. (13 + hours) Because of that some people are talking about having the slots also requiring a qualifying time.
I understand where christri is coming from...I've been to 4 im's now (two as a participant)
and talked to folks who had lottery slots and felt they had gotten in because of their "letter." The part of the app where you get to tell some wild story in hopes that will get you in.
Or you could not by into the "IM World Championship" hype and race and do well at some indy iron distance races.

IMW = Western Australia?
I should clearify here - my goal is not to DO Kona. My goal is to QUALIFY in my age group while I still can. Yes, I probably would go ahead and DO Kona if I qualified just for kicks. So I have no interest in the lottery.
umm I dont get the church part???
Me neither!
