I know when you are using a cold whirlpool to reduce inflammation there’s a temperature range that is both safe and effective (I think it’s 55-60 degrees). What temperature should you shoot for when not using a whirlpool? I would think it would be colder since the water isn’t moving around and the water near your skin will warm up. Would this be more effective if I came up with a way to stir/agitate the water?

Thanks

I think you are thinking about it a little too much. Simply turn the tub to the coldest setting and start to fil it. Then, get in and turn the water off when it is at the desired level. Then, add lots of ice. 2 big bags from the grocery store will get the job done. It will hurt for a bit, but you'll get used to it. Give it 10-15 minutes and then get out.

A couple bags from the store in the bathtub will do it...and with that much water it'll take a lot mroe ice to get it to any unwanted levels.

Also, simply stirring the water with your hands works wonders...or sloshing your legs back and forth or up and down.

Kind of like the motions a cat makes when you throw him in the water...

(or so I've heard)

Definately stir up the water because it will help it to stay cooler. How many of you have done hot to cold treatment? i do it occasionly and it works wonders.

I just use a 55 gallon rubbermaid trashcan, fill it up 3/4 with water from the hose and add the ice. Hop right in immediately after the workout, shorts and all. Since i'm only 5'9" with somewhat short legs, I just stand there or sit on the edge for about 10-12 mins then get out. Very refreshing.
