Hey congratulations on that Half!!!
They are really fun races....today I just did one too, for Mothers Day...so much fun!!!!
For you pain, that could be a strain, well pointed, but also could be a Ileo Tibial Band Syndrome....or ITB Synd, really common in first time racers.....
Try to do some streching....nice and easy....some ice, and heat.....maybe two or three days of OTC NSAIDS, and rest.....plenty....
Before your next trainning session, or race....take really good care of your streching routine...
A few months back, I suffer from the same thing....and streching really cure it....
There are a few pages on the web, that you can key and they show with pics the streching moves you should do....
Best of luck and congratulations again....

Really sounds like IT band problems. The muscle that is the problem is near your hip. It stretches down your outside thigh down to below you knee, becoming a thinner 'band' on the way. When the muscle is overworked, the band that goes across the outside of your knee becomes tighter and pops across the ridge of a bone on your knee. Look at an anatomy book to get a better picture. You might even be able to see the band if you extend your leg all the way out and it is really tight. Try stretching out your upper leg and butt area to help out that pain. Also work the inside of your leg with some weights and simple exercises to strength the area so there is not so much pressure on the outside of your leg. Physcial therapy is what helped me. Best bet would be to go to your Dr. and get recommended. Good luck, and don't worry, you should be back up and running w/in 1-2 months fully healed, if you get the proper help.
Congrats on your first 1/2 marathon.
Ya could be a number of things, from over-use, to strain, to other more serious things. Give it a little rest , ice etc - if it persists then get in to the doc.

Congrats.....Really!
now... ICE BATH, ICE BATH, ICE BATH!!!!
Tub+COLD ASS WATER+3-4 bags of ice+10-15 Minutes of horror = faster recovery... you will be thankful!

I know some soreness is common, but I am having major pain on the outside of right knee and a little in the same spot on my left leg. When I walk it hurts the most, but walking without bending my knee it doesn't hurt. Is this just a strain? Thanks
