Today was my first multirace (just a Duathlon, not a Tri), but it was great and I beat my goal by almost 5 minutes!

1.65 run - 11 mile bike - 1.65 run

I did end up just leaving the HRM at home like some of you suggested in another thread. I finished 5th in the Clydesdale. Being 240 lbs. really hurt me in the run, so my new goal is to drop 15 lbs. before my first Tri on July 9th....the run is too tough at that weight! I averaged 21.1 on the 11 mile bike, but I was hoping to be in the 23 range to make up for my running.

My wife decided to enter also...today was only her 3rd time ever on a road bike and she finished 5th overall for women and won her Athena division by 40 minutes which was the biggest margin win in a division ever that the announcer could remember!!! Pretty good for 3 times on a bike (she is an aerobics instructor, former national fitness competitor and personal trainer, but still). She averaged 20.6 mph on the bike after only 3 rides! I took her on her 2nd ride ever a few days ago and asked her why she was so slow taking off after we stopped at lights....she said that she never shifted gears and just kept it in the highest gear and got a workout, so today was her first time using the gear lesson I gave her LOLOL :D ! She's now hooked too!

Goto Multirace.com, RESULTS on the left, then look at Mothers Day Duathlon if you want to see the pictures and results from the race....yes I am the bald guy in the red shirt! There is a funny picture of my wife sprinting against a guy at the finish line...with about 200 yds to go, she starts sprinting and says, "you're not going to let a girl beat you are you?" Thanks for the HRM advice :) !!! I love this sport, so please keep answering my stupid questions and helping me along....it really helps the rookies out!!!

If you keep training, you can realistically drop 20 lbs, by the first race.
If you don't beleive me check out sbrmultisports.com.... check out the overweight triathlete, challenge.... they are training for an ironman, and have dropped more than 65 lbs since november! Best of luck on your future races. Kep us posted...
Congrats... you're a tri geek like the rest of us.

LOLO...thanks for the encouragement.....I'm not fat, just big boned and tall, but still too big to be competitive in the run! I have lost 8 lbs since I started Tri training in on March 1st.

Great job. Congratulations to you both.

Don't worry about weight either. It'll come off. I rode with a guy yesterday who used to be 240. Now he's a 185-pound age group champion.

Speed hurts; how fast do you want to go?

I would like to get my wife into doing Triathlons too, but the only problem is she always comes out of the pool all bruised up from people hitting her with lifesavers because they think she's drowning....I'm sure after she sees my first Tri, she will want to put some effort into practicing her swim!
