Sports Movies
"Miracle" is a good one - it's about the 1980 US Olympic Hockey team.
"American Flyers" and "Breaking Away" are great cycling flicks.
The Kona Ironman coverage is always a good way to go - I got the 2004 25th Anniversary race DVD which is great. The 2005 DVD is good too and focuses a little more on the leaders.
C'mon, "Rudy" and "Hoosiers" are all you need. "Miracle" was darn good, too.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
"Breaking Away," of course!
And "The Rookie"
Two of the best ever.
Speed hurts; how fast do you want to go?
Pre is an awesome movie and of course Rudy
The story of a guy who is five foot nothin', a hundred and nothin', with barely a lick of talent, and hangs with the best college football team in America. A movie like that doesn't have to prove anything to anyone. Rudy, Rudy, Rudy!!!!
Googles, Out.
The Battle does not always go to the stronger or faster man,
Because sooner or later the man that wins
Is the man that thinks he can.
American Flyers, Without Limits (My Fav), Pre, Chariots of Fire, Running Brave ( Go KU), are some of my favorites.
"To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the Gift."
"Somebody may beat me, but they are going to have to bleed to do it."
"A lot of people run a race to see who's the fastest. I run to see who has the most guts."
"Something inside of me just said 'Hey, wait a minute, I want to beat him,' and I just took off."
"I'm going to work so that it's a pure guts race at the end, and if it is, I am the only one who can win it." -Steve Prefontaine
Cool Runnings mon…one of the best ever.
“…Well, let me tell you what I see. I see pride! I see power! I see a bad-ass mother who don't take no crap off of nobody!
“Hey Darice! Ya dead?... No, I'm not dead mon. But I have to finish the race.

"Breaking Away", "Chariots of Fire","Remember the Titans".
Don't forget "The Natural" "Field of Dreams" "A League of Their Own"
and don't laugh at this..."Searching for Bobby Fischer" A great film about what's important...
and yes...it's considered a sports film.

"Overcoming", a movie about the preparation of the cycling team CSC for the 2004 Tour de France.
Does Caddyshack count? It's got some golf in it!
American Flyers....wow...awesome....a classic...
The Replacements....well, I was the one who mentioned it before....
Point Break....sort a surf-FBI movie, but pumps me up too...
Any Given Sunday.....
That is what I can think right now.....
And of course...I am a huge Rocky fan....I will be able to train with that soundtrack even after the end of my days....hahaha

And along those lines, what about Happy Gilmore?

Miracle...I get pumped up every time I watch it.
"If we played them 10 times they would beat us 9. But not tonight."
Murderball - it is about the US quadrapalegic rugby team - the scene at the end where they play in the semifinals of the 2004 paralympics games always motivates me before a workout.
Gotta vote for Miracle.

I'd recommend Breaking Away as the best movie with a bicycling theme. I finally saw American Flyers earlier this week, and was pretty disappointed. It didn't seem to me that anyone associated with the movie had ever been on a bike prior to shooting it.
And being a former (?) wrestler, I've got to recommend Visionquest. It pretty much hit home for me except unfortunately, the whole Carla thing --- well, at least in high school.

wow....im supprised nobody has metioned the movie that ESPN did called "Four Minutes"
Its about Roger Banister being the first person to ever break the 4 min mile. This movie makes me wanna jump out the door and go run 20 miles! I love it!
hoosiers...and perhaps i'm dating myself but what about chariots of fire?
You know, I never really throughly enjoyed Chariots of Fire. I liked Miracle a LOT more. But then, I'm not old ;)
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
My fave is "Slapshot", "Rudy", "North Dallas Forty"(I saw as a kid) showed older athletes and there aches and pains. Of course I love the Kona IM World Championships on DVD and "Victory" :D

This discussion is sort of going on elsewhere, but I think it deserves its own thread. What sports-related movies do you watch that really get you psyched for training/racing/etc.?
So far, "Rocky," "The Replacements," and "Major League" have been mentioned. Any others? (These don't have to be fictional)
