First Tri

I made it through my first tri last Sunday - Xterra Spring Sprint in San Diego - What a great experience. Although the race didn't go all that well, it was a great day.
I made it to the race early enough to get everything set up and start to get an idea for what was about to happen.
Started at the back of the swim and I'm glad I did. I got in the water and about 50 meters out I realized the swim was going to take longer than it should. I couldn't get a good stroke going or a good beathing pattern working. I felt as if I had a monkey on my back. But I push my was through and made it to the other side.
Went through t1 without any problems. Jump on the bike and was off. About 2 miles in I realize my bike training needs work. Legs had a burning in them that lasted the entire bike leg. Again made it through. Question - What's would a good average speed be for a 10 mile loop? Made it through t2 without any problems and was off on the run. Legs felt good for the run - run training paid off. Run went well and finished the day on a high note. All in all a great day. Also, Thanks to all the volunteers, they were great and made my day all the more easier. Can't wait for the next race.
This is a great site and all the input from everyone goes a long way. Thanks everyone.

Congratulations! and welcome to the wonderful world of triathlon madness!
Now that you have the first one under your belt what is your next event?? :D

Ya, nice job.
You learn so much from racing.
Things that you need to work on, but mostly how great it is to do Tri's.
As far as what is a good speed for the 10 mile loop - as fast as you can do it, without blowing up on the run. ;) Too many variables, from course layout, wind, weather, your fitness, your bike etc. to say what speed is good.

hi sandiegotri, i was at the same race. third time around. its a great event. i also really enjoyed it...good luck with your season...perhaps if you are looking for a training partner we could hook up...let me know :-)

The rest of my schdule is limited. Maybe two more races this year. One in July and one in August. I have alot of work to do between now and then.

Driggins - Training with someone sound like a good idea, I could use all the help I can get. I live in east county and do all of my training out there. Your suggestions?
