I know that wetsuits offer not only a buffer for the cold ocean water but also buoyancy.

However much I like my wetsuit I am a strong swimmer, and quite frankly, would just rather do without.

I am participating in an Auqathon in San Diego this weekend. The current ocean temp. is about 63Farenheit.

Is that too cold to safely swim sans-wetsuit? What is the typical water temp range for wetsuit use vs. just a speedo?

You'll want the wetsuit. If you are in the water sans-wetsuit for longer than 5 minutes, you'll see why. And no, you won't "warm up" enough while swimming to be okay without it.

thats sort of what i figured. I'd certainly like to opt out of hypothermia.
