What now?
Chill. If you want some help, we need some backgorund. how long have you been in the sport? What distances have you done? Anything above OLY? Do you have a time goal? What does your work schedule look like? It doesn't take a year to train for, so don't get worked up yet.
Don't worry....
follow the golden rule:
COACHES ARE CHEAPER THAN DISC WHEELS!
So train hard... maybe get a coach if your looking at Kona, and remember all a tri geek's crap is only worth as much as you put into your training.
Can certainly relate.
After signing up for IMWI back in Sept., I finished out the season, took a little down time, and then focused on base over the winter and early spring. I also purchased an IM training plan from Rich Strauss. He had one taylored for IMWI. So, that was my approach.
That or a coach helps ease the questions of 'Am I doing the proper training? Recovery? Tapering? Nutrition etc...'

I'd think about a 1/2 IM this summer, just because it's a better test of nutrition strategy than an Oly.
One thing I did prior to my official "training" period (in progress) was address some potential mental/physical limiters. For example, I had done a 1/2 ironman, but I had never run a marathon or done a 4k swim when I signed up for IM. So I set out to do some periodized training where I would concentrate more on one sport. I did this at a mostly base-building intensity with some cross training, mostly swimming. After running all fall, I ran my first marathon in January. After that, I backed off on running and built up to do a couple 4k+ swims in March/April (I added biking back into the mix in January & have steadily built since then, too). It was nice to accomplish these goals on the way to IM training--and it has made me much more confident about training and about finishing the race this fall--because I know I can do the distance in these sports now.

I'm chillin! Just didn't know where to start till now! Background: almost two years in the sport, I have done many sprints several Olys, and I guess you call it a long olympic (.5 swim, 30 bike, 8 run), would like to complete in less than 13:30, work 8-5 but have time at lunch for 1;30 worth of time maybe a little more (own my own business), really looking at focusing on my IM training starting in mid August. That will give me this season to complete my scheduled races and a couple of weeks of recovery.
Thanks for all the input, I appreciate all my Trifuel friends and their knowledge!!!

Well, Although I've never done an IM, I've thought about it a lot. If you have a plan that works with a Base period, Build, Peak, and Taper, I would work backwards. What I mean is, start at April 15 and count back 3 weeks for taper, than 3-4 weeks for peak, 8 weeks for build, and 12 weeks of base. That would start your training in late September. With 6 months of solid training and a taper I think you'd be in great shape. You should look at the Triathlete's Training Bible. It has a lot of great info in there. Just my thoughts.

I'm registered for IM Arizona for April 15th 2007. What do I do now? Where do I start? I'm racing sprints and Olympics this summer, but what then? What training program do I follow? What do I tell friends and relatives when they tell me I'm crazy? Help, I am overwhelmed and its a year away! Oh crap! only a year! I better get to work!!
