If you happen to start getting some spam comments in your new blog, I have a couple Plugins that I installed to help combat that.

One is called "Bad Behavior" the other "Spam Karma 2". I tried Bad Behavior and it caught some but still let some slide through. I just added the Spam Karma and hoping that one works better, it seems pretty robust and gives you tools to manage the spam.

So to enable on your blog.

1. Go to your admin Dashboard.
2. Click PlugIns (about 5 links over on the top navbar).
3. Then click "Activate" for the Spam Karma row. It's now activated for your blog.
4. From there you can manage it under the "Manage" tab. It'll be the link furthest to the right after clicking into Manage.
5. Click the Spam Karma tab to run the initial setup.

Hopefully these will help. I don't get nearly the spam I did on the other system, so we'll see.

How did you know these just started today?

I had the one enabled, I will try the new one.

Oh, and I like that I'm given the "mark as spam" option. It seems to catch about 50% of the ones to moderate. How does it decide if they need moderation or not? Did I set something at some point and then forget?

So I was just looking at new one... why are blogspot and livejournal on the greylist? Does that mean to allow or not allow them? I just can't tell.

I assume your talking about the Bad behavior one? I think it's automated, no initial settings made by the blogger, mostly set based on what is known to be out there. I think it checks in with known spammers database.

The new one looks to give more control and let you set more filters. I haven't played around with it much yet, so just trying it as the default and see how it works.

The blacklist checks servers, not individuals who may have a livejournal/blogspot blog account or email address. Only if they are sending something from a livejournal/blogspot server, i.e. trackbacks, or something. Greylist is a step down from Black in that it double checks how the comment is being sent i.e. automated or something. It shouldn't effect normal commenters.
