Is it okay to drink milk?

I drink at least a gallon of milk a week and I was wondering if it was okay to do this while drinking. If this isn't good then whatelse would you suggest? I gave up drinking carbonated/caffeinated drinks a while back. But I do enjoy water and decaf tea, are those good alternatives?

I did not get right your question I think....
Did you mean, to drink milk, while working out...pre workout...post workout...or just as your day beverage of choice...?

I don't drink it pre or post workout. But I drink it with my breakfast or sometimes at dinner. I just didn't know if it was okay to drink as an everyday thing is all.

Milk is great for your body, especially if you can handle the lactose, and I'm assuming you can if you drink a gallon per week. I usually drink 2-4 glasses per day and get other calcium and protein from yogurt too. I've heard great things about milk as a good post (or post post, ie, as soon as your stomach can handle it) hard workout recovery drink, because it intermixes the right amounts of sugars and proteins. I personally can't handle any dairy or cheese before my workouts, but I do also know people who can and do and seem to perform well. If you're looking to cut calories, switching to low or nonfat milks still gives you lots of health benefits without the fat and has been shown to prevent or slightly decrease the size of stored belly fat.

I always drink skim milk, can't really drink any other kind of milk, it upsets my stomach tooooo much.

But my stomach likes to get attitude with me sometimes and I was just wondering if working out quite a bit more coupled with drinking quite a bit of milk was okay or if I should try to cut back on it.

Milk is great. Don't forget about water though. I think water is the most important.

Gotcha!
Well...here I remember some time ago...there was a huge debate about good vs. bad in matters of dairy...and particulary milk. I´ll look for the link...and posted in here later...
Sorry if my counterquestion sounded a little silly...I just wanted to be clear...
Now...I am a true believer...as an athlete...person...and health profesional, that milk is great. Particulary if your digestive tract tolerates well lactose....but even if you don´t....there are some ways to fix that....
Either way...milk...is healthy...skim milk...because as I always tell my patients, whole milk...can be as a nice treat, every once in a while...to much fat in it....that we don´t want...right...?
There is nothing wrong to drink milk every day...as a beverage of choice....you are putting in...a nice amount of liquid, to keep you hydrated, proteins for muscle recovery and building, calcium to keep strong bones, good source of carbs for energy, and you are staying away of other beverages, like carbonated ones...or too much caffeine...etc.
There has been some reports in medical, nutritional, and athletic journals that milk can help you to keep your body lean, and to manage body weight.
As a doctor I can tell you that there is nothing like "milk overdose"...or something.....
I know, that there is out there the "Milk Alkali Syndrome"...but that is a different story....with other conotations.....
Besides now out in the market there are afew healthy choices, like 1%, 2%, with no lactose, enriched with Omega 3, chocolate, vanilla, strawberry....and so on....
The message from here will be my good friend, that is great that you drink milk...nothing wrong with it....personally, I go over a gallon and a half and sometimes 2 per week with no lactose...or the help of lactaid....without those...man!!! trouble....
Keep in mind that adding some water to your liquids is also good...plain nice water...just to keep a little more balance your liquid intake....and also there is yogourt....that is also good for athletes and non athletes...
Mmmmm, talking all this about milk,,,just made me thirsty....
Time for my last glass of the day....

When I was a kid, my mom told me to drink 3 glasses of milk a day.

Good idea.

Make it skim, though.
And skim chocolate milk is great, too. :)

I love milk,(skim milk) I drink about a quart a day.
If you have no problems with lactose intolerance it is a good food.
It is a low glycemic index food, with protien, calcium and vitamin D. :D

Nothing to it, but to do it

I am with triguy98…chocolate lowfat milk is an awesome post workout drink.
I think I read somewhere that the alkaloids in the chocolate actually help your stomach digest the milk better (for those with lactose digestion problems).
Only problem with milk is that it gets chunky in my bike bottle during a long ride on a nice hot day here in Phoenix. :D

I love milk.

Especially in summer when it's hot I sometimes drink a litre right after a workout. Up to 10-12 l per week. There's nothing better.

Chocolate skim...yum. Early and often. And I include it in my fluid intake count for the day.

Soy milk > cow milk.

Lactose makes me feel tired earlier on workouts, but only if I've had it within 2 hours or so of the start of said workout. I love milk as a recovery beverage, but I think soy is just as good or better than real milk.

I wanna start placing in my age group!
